Have only had the 650 Burgman for 2 days and put about 250 miles on it. This is a great bike. It is never at a loss for power at any speed. You cannot tell which stage of the transmission it is in. It is 100% smooth seamles power to the road. The only complaint is the small wind screen. It is totally inadequate for a 6'2" man. Lots of wind noise around helmet at speed. Got 52 mpg on the first tank of gas. Scootin in Texas

I have had my Burgman 400 for 2 1/2 years now and it has done 19,000 commuter miles. In that time I have had a problem with the rear wheel (replaced under warranty), one oil leak from the engine (leaking gasket), one new rear tyre and several routine services. It has performed very well indeed. I commute over 30 miles each way every day during the summertime months, mostly motorway. The Burgman 400 keeps up easily with the traffic, cruising at 80 mph, occasionally pulling up to 90 mph+ for a quick overtake. It is very comfy, I never have any backaches unlike on some earlier bikes. The screen is sufficiently tall for me, although there is some buffeting above 75 mph. Weather protection is very good. The underseat luggage space carries my briefcase or laptop, and when I park the bike it takes my full-face helmet, gloves and trousers. I never have to wear a rucksack, something I don't like at all on a bike. I refuel every other day after 130 - 140 miles, it then needs about 10 l. For me the Burger is the ideal commuter vehicle for medium distances. It is the quickest way between home and work, especially when traffic on the M4 is stationary (as it is every other day). My co-workers keep referring to it as my moped, but I think they're just jealous!

Don't knock it until you've tried it is what I say. This is a fantastic little machine, well designed, thoroughly practical and surprisingly good fun to ride. Quick enough most of the time too and able to make good average journey times over big distances.< >< >I no longer have my 'Burgervan' but I did own it for twelve months and I think it is one of the best bikes I have owned. I bought it as I wanted a smallish commuter and fancied a change from a bike. After a week owning it I hated it as I missed the 'bike' feel. After three weeks I respected it, and admired its ability. After six weeks I loved it, and swore I would never part with it. But alas as with many bikers the hankering to try something else hit after a year and I traded it for a Fazer 600 (see review elsewhere on this site)< >< >The bike is foolproof to ride, just twist and go, and makes for a very relaxed ride. It is no road burner that's true but it can get along at a respectable lick. Cruising speed on the motorway is 75mph and top whack is 85, enough to keep up with the flow.< >< >Through town it is a cracker, and can see off bigger bikes because you never have to worry about looking for the right gear or reaching for that stiff clutch. This means you can just concentrate on looking for those gaps to filter through. It is also a laid back riding position which means no racer wrist ache, back ache or bum ache!< >< >Mine was the early model with the 32 litre underseat storage bay (as opposed to the new 400's whopping 52 litres) which was still big enough for a full face lid plus waterproofs plus lots of other stuff. I actually managed a weekend rally with everything under the seat except the tent which went on the backrack, and the kettle which went in the glovebox!< >< >Long distances are quite feasible too.Comfort is acceptable for up to 2 hours before stopping, and weather protection is excellent. Waterproofs are only needed in realy heavy rain. I did 200 miles from Yorkshire to Wales for the Welsh show at Builth Wells in 2002 on mine, in four hours. That's a very good average speed for any bike, and it was still able to show up a couple of blokes on a Transalp and a Hornet 600 through the twisty bits. The look on their faces was worth the show ticket price on it's own!< >< >Handling is not bad up to 70mph but gets a bit wriggly and tail happy at higher speeds on twisty roads. The engine forms the swinging arm and moves with the suspension so at higher (it's all relative) speeds, the rear end waves about a bit. Very disconcerting at first but once you get used to it it is quite entertaining and the whole plot is quite safe.< >< >Standard tyres are bridgestone hoops at
