Further to my original review,i thought you might be interested in my latest play on my old FZ750 (Mods:).
I have brought an ex I.O.Man TT full race FZR1000 Genesis engine complete with race clutch. It will be interesting to find out what BHP & top speed will be !.Bike is also now fitted with a Metmachex braced swingarm for better handling.

Yamaha FZ600

While taking my Triumph Speed Triple into the local bike shop for new tyres, the kind fellows gave me a Yamaha FZ600 as the loan bike. First time I've had a go on one of these and I must say I thought it was quite a good fun bike.

The first thing I noticed was the seating position, quite a bit lower compared to the Triumph, I even managed to get both feet flat on the floor rather than tip toeing when stopped at traffic lights. The handling was very light on the front end and I can imagine would be great fun once used to the bike for popping the odd wheelie or two (not that I tried this in any way!!)

It felt a bit strange for me once out on the open road, I thought I was thrashing it at one point but when taking a glance at the rev counter it was only on 4.5k. I suppose that's just me used to the big lumpy triple of an engine from Triumph. I must say thought the FZ600 is a very quiet bike.
After riding around all day, ooops I mean a couple of hours, I had great fun.

If anybody is looking for a good town/commuter 600cc, this could be the one for you, very light, very comfortable, good on the ears and wheelie friendly. Would definitely recommend a test ride.

There you go, hope I didn't mention Triumph too much, do I get my t-shirt now?

I bought a FZ750 earlier this year,it had been sprayed black & fitted with a race style seat unit off a Kawasaki !. It was too tall for me so i got an original seat unit & side panels & put it back to standard,a big improvement. It is fitted with a full Micron 4-2-1 down pipes & Micron silencer,it sounds great & go"s like S**t off a shovel.I have also got a stage 3 carb conversion from Factory Pro in the USA & a Gear conversion to give faster gear changes & prevent false neutrals, 4 Bull Air filters have been fitted In place of the original air box.The suspension front & rear has been uprated & new Bridgestone Battax tryes fitted front & rear. The dropbars have been removed & replaced with Risers & Renthal Bars. The engine has been fully rebuilt & Dyno:@106BHP@ the back wheel !!!,Not bad considering the original BHP was about 86@ the back wheel on a standard bike.I have spent about £1500 so far & thats with me doing most of the work,I was a mechanic for most of my life & I looked on this has a challenge. Was it worth it on an old bike ?,YES,is the answer. These 2nd model FZ750 Genisis had a fantastic reputation for their 5 Valves per cylinder engines & fantastic performance for the time (1987).The bike handles & performs Almost as good as any modern machine & has the looks to go with it...I hope you enjoy reading my review & wish you happy biking...

Bike journo's - what do they know? This bike does it all and for a brilliant price. Had mine now for over 3 years, not a single problem. Rides brilliantly - handles really well and corners like a more expensive bike. All day comfort - a real do it all bike that is fun to ride. Into Europe this year for an extended trip - the FZ6 a seriously underrated bike.

An excellent all round bike. Bought new as I had a 120 mile a day commute, and the Aprilia RSV Factory wasn't up to the task! I tested all of the 'budget commuter' 600's before deciding on the Fazer. The Suzuki Bandit 650, a very easy to ride bike, but the clocks were a little to 'classic' looking for my liking.. The CBF600, i'd have died of boredom waiting to get to 100mph!, the Kawasaki ER6, on the motorway it was like it was made of Meccano!

The FZ6 is a great all rounder. within the first year of ownership i've put 10k miles on the clock and the only thing i've had to replace is the rear tyre! the front tyre is getting a little near to the limit, but still some life in it!

I've added a Givi rack and top box, Oxford HotGrips and an Autocom (for using with the iPod on the motorway).

I have been riding my Yamaha FZ6 Fazer since October 2005. I commute 52 miles per day. Come rain or shine, I cannot fault this bike and as for the 'If you like revving' reviews, they are trash! I like the feel of the bike and it handles well. On average I get about 180 to the tank before I hit the reserve. Running cost are minimal and the services are cheap plus it looks good. What else could you ask for at the list price?? A great bike. Mark, Essex

Top marks for this bike. It is a true all rounder, with performance to put the Honda and Suzuki rivals to shame!

I have now almost completed my FZ750 project. The purpose of this was to build on an already excellent alrounder, making it more individual while also improving on areas of the bike that are now showing thier age. I have now fitted an FZR1000 engine, NC24/30 single sided swinging arm, uprated the front brakes and adjusted the suspension. The brakes have been taken from a TL1000R and have improved the stopping power over the standard single pot callipers. They are also much easier to service. The front forks now benefit from uprated progressive springs and slightly heavier oil to stiffen up the front while giving good feedback to the bars and balance of the bike. The rear suspension has been improved through the use of a proflex aftermarket unit giving a slightly harder ride (rider preference) and the addition of the single sided swing arm has shortened the wheelbase resulting in sharper and more precise steering. The project now just needs a modification to the exhaust which will either move to a high level system or an underslung Buell style system - cost will determine which I go for. Overall, the modificatins have made the bike more sporting than the original and has been relatively cheap to do as most of the engineering and build has been done by myself. Please have a look at the photos!
