Yamaha YP 250cc 97/98 (R)
Overall Rating:
Review
I owned a 250 majesty for about 18 months. I bought it for commuting to save using my bike. First thing I found was the screen was noisy so I replaced it with a larger one made by givi. If you do this buy the clear one and not the tinted item, otherwise you won't see where you're going at night. Even then if you're shorter than 5'10" you might need to cut it down. With this screen fitted the Majesty is transformed into one of the best weather protected bikes there is. My favourite trick was riding at seventy in the pouring rain with my visor open. Apart from the harsh rear shocks the Majesty is also the most comfortable two wheeler I've ever ridden. I once rode it 300 miles to visit friends only stopping for a twenty minute break to eat and fill up with petrol. When I arrived I could honestly have put in another 100 miles at least. I had no aches or pains not even a twinge - this is a feat I've never managed on any of the bikes I've owned. The luggage space is gargantuan. The under seat space will only take one crash helmet but you can squeeze loads more stuff around it. There is a cubby hole at the front which is at least four times the size of the one in my car! and for good measure another one between your feet useful for locks, chains etc. The engine is full of roller bearings (just like suzi GS550's) so if you change the oil regularly it's reputedly bomb proof. I've seen one with 54,000kms on the clock. Expect to get 65-80mpg depending on riding style, and a top speed of 75+mph. If it won't do more than seventy it's time for a new belt. So far it's all good news but one thing the majesty won't do is inspire you. You wont wake up on a sunny Sunday and think 'I must go out for a blast on the Maj Today'. It's a tool. A totally utilitarian bike and that in the end was why I sold it. However, when its chucking it down with rain and the speedo on my Runner SP180 is telling me huge fibs I sometimes find myself missing it's basic honesty and usefulness.
