The BMW R1100 is to me one of the most comfortable motorbikes I have ever ridden. In years to come I believe that the R1100 will be a classic. This bike has the typical comfort and versatility of BMW and it an all round marvel. If you don’t expect something incredible then you will be pleasantly surprised when you ride this bike.

This BMW isn’t super sharp but if you want to hustle along A roads then this bike is smooth and easy to ride. When you buy this bike as standard you get ok instrumentation but you can get some special paint, heated grips and other goodies as extra bits. For your money you get a bike that is classy and a durable all rounder, just don’t expect to be blown away.

Almost unmodified since introduction in 94 and sure footed on Metzeler tyres the bike handles a treat. Acceleration is more than sufficient to cope with the young boy racers (I guess the tail pipe doesn't look good to them). The machine is comfortable, reliable, and certainly turns a few heads. I guess the marakesh red colour has something to do with this. Would I change it, no never. Solo or two up the performance is more than sufficient and handling is undisturbed. Okay the Japs are the flavour at the moment but the Beamer will long outlive them.

I bought the beemer last sept (2005) from Colwyn Bay Mc. Since then I've ridden it through the winter and done 5K on it. 2 weeks after buying the bike I was travelling down the A55 when I was stopped by traffic cop. I had the screen in mid position, and heated grips on low, sitting there like lord shit, I stopped the bike & put it on the main stand. Walked up to him, he told me I was doing a constant 90mph, he walked up to the bike and told me to take it easy. I think if I was on a pocket rocket it would have been a ticket for sure. I've also gone from Oxford to Wrexham on a tank with juice left over. Ive ridden all sorts in my time,(Im 50) & this is the BEST touring bike I've had.

Well I'm sorry chaps, but I cant be as positive about my rs. I think the engine is straight out of a dump truck. If Honda decided to build a big flat twin it would be a damn site smoother, and more powerfull. They would also fit a proper FI system with air flow meters. The gearbox is out of the same dumptruck. BMW claim that the majority of box's sent back under warranty have nothing wrong, so are we all wrong then?mr BMW!! And why do I have to keep the battery permenently on charge so that the ABS system will work in the winter? why cant we have an alternater and battery big enough for the bike and its systems? Gripes out of the way, it is growing on me. I've replaced the screen with an Airflow one, had to cut flip up lip off though to get rid of the wind noise, but its much better than the original now. The panniers are superb, but i've opted to use a 50ltr Givi top box cos the BMW box is to small to get even one helmet in, and i've gone for a Baglux harness which I can fit either a tank bag or Map pocket too. Two up is great, I don't know she's behind me... except she doesn't shut up since we bought the autocom!!!! A friend thats done 75K on his recommended Mez4's or Macadam 100's, as id tried Michelins on my thundercat and hated them I opted for the mez's. These are great and very stable, but the front sometimes lacks that extra bit of grip, so I'm going to try a mez3 up front this summer when I need to change. Seriously, it is growing on me, I've added 4000mile to the origanal 8000 since august01. the engine runs better now i,ve paid the dealer to service it properly, shame he didnt do it pre-delivery though, and ive developed a knack of holding it in each gear for a few seconds each change which stops any missed gears. Its very very comfy for both of us, and handles great in all weathers regardless of load. I can see me owning it for a good few years, as I don't see an alternative for what we need, might try an 1150 when they start come down in price a bit though. But for fun I'm going to get rid of my transalp, winter bike for something sporty, vfr4 maybe:) and of course its always so nice to hear my darlings dulcit tones over the autocom :)

This bike is huge fun but the reliabilty claims are totally untrue. Very costly when repairs are needed. ABS never worked half the time and it's a BMW

Easy bike to ride, handles well even two up, comfortable for both rider and pillion. starts first time even in winter when garaged for up to two weeks at a time. smooth ride and you can get it well over with the panniers off
