The idea was a simple and good one.Take the powerful and advanced machinery of the big engine of the day(gsxr1100) and throw it into the best possible frame solution that hand made Italian design work could come up with,incorporate all the best available brakes and suspension,and cover it over with a subframe less carbon fibre sleeve.The result looks like a little 500 track bike,but cunningly mounted in the straight line technology frame that offers second to none handling is the ubiquitous,bullet proof gsxr1100 engine.
Despite this design being nearly 15yrs old,it is only in the last couple of years that the mainstream manufacturers have been able to match the power to weight ratio offered by this superb handmade Italian superbike.
This machine is all about style and craftsmanship.Long after the factory produced,production line machines have been forgotten,the SB6 will still stand out as ahead of it's time.Designed to impress rider and onlooker alike.
With it's normal aspiration the bike has a power band glitch at around 3000rpm,but the improved air flow from Bimota makes the Suzuki engine purr,and puts the horsepower to work as no Japanese machine ever could.
The 35,000 euro price tag when new,has kept this pedigree tool exclusive,and in the hands of the motorcycling connoisseur.However,examples in very good order are not uncommon,if you can find an owner to part with one.
The performance figures of a new production bike tell the story,but the confidence that the pedigree of a Bimota affords will allow you to stay ahead of all but the most professional of riders on today's machinery.
I've owned two to date,and no doubt after i've sold the one i now have,i'll be out looking for another come next season.You can't odds a bit of class,peeps!
