Press release
You’ve got one, I’ve got one; it beats out the rhythm of life. Most of the time, we pay no mind to it and take for granted that it will do its duty and support us through our lives and our children’s lives while we get on with the business of living and making important plans for the future. Who would think that if a little pump stopped, it would eradicate all of our plans hopes and dreams? So, what has all this got to do with motorcycles and more importantly Brightona Co-organiser of Brightona Abby Golding, sums up the organising committee's ambition for this year’s 2008 Brightona bike rally, in a single sentence “Double the attendance, double the fun and double the money raised for The Sussex Heart Charity”.
What is Brightona? It’s a motorcycle event held every year on Brighton’s famous Madeira Drive, which was originally built for speed trials. It includes motorcycles, hot rods, stalls, memorabilia and live music, a great meeting place and lots of fun, with a great backdrop of the seaside and the famous Brighton Pier, and all for a good cause that one day could benefit you or your loved ones.
Last year’s 2007 event Ł20,000 that Brightona raised for the Sussex Heart Charity was used to purchase a Harmonic Scalpel which had been requested by Cardiothoracic surgeons and will change the way some heart operations are carried out, paving the way to bringing laparoscopic (keyhole cardiac) surgery to the Sussex Cardiac Centre in Brighton. Other benefits of the harmonic scalpel include 1) ability to be used on patients that have pacemakers and internal defibrillators because it uses no electrical energy, furthermore it also operates safely near metal clips, staples and instruments. 2) Reduction in the tissue damage that can occur using the current mono-polar diathermy equipment 3) decreased blood flow as it cuts can increase the surgeon’s visions during an operation. 4) Less invasive surgery = quicker recovery.
Purchasing this type of equipment never comes cheap so the aim for Brightona 2008 is: More Fun! More Bikes! More People = More Money for the Sussex Heart Charity.
