Excellent very much under estimated bike. Easy to live with and a joy to polish and ride. 16 inch wheels a slight disappointment but otherwise a super fun Ducati!

I don't care what anyone says - I love it....OK so my wrists get a little sore, but I still think it's better than all the anonymous Japanese bikes out there. I use it for a daily 15 mile commute to and from the suburbs into the city of London each day, and for the occasional blast at weekends - and it's perfect for both. I have had the bike for a little over a year and 6000 miles now, and the only problem was a blown gasket, swiftly fixed under warranty. Still love it, but want a 749/999....maybe in a year or so

My first V twin. Has a lot of character and superb handling but lacks a bit of power. Brakes superb. Long distances a pain in the wrists but the seat is surprisingly comfy. Covered 8000miles with only one minor fault. Got to watch the electrics when washing and a good dose of WD40 goes a long way to maintaining the electics and finish. Does not suit the Scottish winter and hates salt. I prefer the looks of the H/F version but the engine gets really grubby. Fitted Bridgestone 020's and had a marked handling improvement. Cheap to buy (imported from germany in 200 for less than

Bought the Duke new in March 2000, had a few initial problems, notably the gearbox, tells you it's in neutral when it's not actually, caused some minor damage, which has now (eventually) been sorted by Ducati UK. Had to do plenty of reminding to get a suitable reply. The new Duke is a lot better than the old one, the quality of the finish is excellent, but the nuts, bolts etc still go off colour quite quickly. To ride the bike is very nimble, even thought there is not much power (62-65 bhp) it pulls out of bends very quickly and is very stable. When pushed hard on flat, smooth, twisty roads it excells in the grin factor stakes. The music the bike makes with standard cans on is a little dissapointing, but invest in some aftermarket cans and it transformes the bike and makes the most gorgeous noise when coming down hill and backing off the throttle, "oh so sweet", this is the music Ducati's are meant to make. After a long ride there is quite an ache in your wrists, and the thumb on your right hand may go a little numb, the seat is quite comfortable, but do more than 200 miles (320km, approx) and you will be very glad for a stop, to strech out and relax a while. Same goes for the pillion, although it is a lot more comfortable than other sports bike, so I've been reliably informed, with quite a wide well padded seat, both male (6ft) and females(5ft 7in and 4ft 11in) found it fine on regular rides out. The standard rubber is very good, and unless you are on a par with Foggy (or ride like you think you are him!!) then these are fine for most people. Overall the new Duke is a very solid package, it look's like nothing else on the road, and boy does it get the look's, very admired when parked up road side, and afterall that is one of the pleasures of owning a Ducati, ENVY. Now looking at trading up to a 748bp next year, but getting more attached to the 750SS every ride, so watch this space.

Fantastic entry level bike into the world of Ducati. Superb, handling, brakes, power delivery and looks. Could be a little easier going on the wrists though.

Bought to replace a 600SS. Really a much better machine. Dunno why as most things appeared to be the same. Got bored with the performance after 18 months, had cans, jets & filter done and made it even better without sacrificing too much economy (gaining on motorway runs). May be going soon for a 748. Never had any trouble with it at all.

What a great, manageable first bike! I knew all I wanted was a Duke, having been converted to bikes only last year. I passed my test 3 weeks ago and already I'm over 500 miles...not bad considering I only work 12 miles away and work 6 days a week! Steering, handling superb; very slight ache in mid-back after long journeys, but nothing major. First service (600m) should be around
