Gilera DNA 125cc Sept '01 (51)
Overall Rating:

This bike is really poor. It handles like a block of lard, it not stable at high speeds, damp gets into the spark plug caps, have had 3 new speedos as moisture collects in them, 125 four stroke is sluggish on pull-off, but copes well with traffic, then the coolant cap blew off and pissed coolant everywhere. NOT reccomended, did my test and bought a Honda CB400SF, MUCH better!!!

Gilera Ice 50 50cc Sept '01 (51)

I have owned this scooter for 6 months. I have slowly over time had the engine which is a Hi-per 2 engine in it derestricted. I am now able to get a performance of 65 - 70mph out of this on the flat, with no extras added. This speed was taken on the flat but the carb was rejetted in order to get maximum performance Buy one

Gilera Runner 175cc Sept '01 (51)
Overall Rating:

The best twist-and-go money can buy!< >The following points:< >o Classed in the 125+ driver's licence band.< >o Four stroke, making it quieter then 50 and 125cc two stroke scooters.< >o 180cc engine puting out 20hp, some 10x more then Aprila SR50s that seem to try it on!< >o Uses vario-matic gearing instead of 50cc-style max-revs/max-speed. Think of it as linear gearing but fully automatic.< >o Has an imobiliser requiring chip-enocded keys, cannot use cut-copies or screwdrivers!< >o Electric start, though no kick-start.< >o Capable two-up with plenty of room.< >o Averages 15 miles per litre, mainly urban conditions.< >o Has a larger windshield than the SP50 models.< >In summary, this is a very well specified twist-and-go scooter with bags of power and good looks. Priced within range of Honda and others 125cc scooters, but give the advantage of being the the 125+ cc driving licence band meaning you can pass your test on this bike and ride any power/geared bike.< >Highly recomended to anyone considering a twist-and-go with roughly 2000 or so to spend, without being outpriced on insurance of such 400cc (like Suzuki Burgman) types.

Gilera Runner 125cc Sept '01 (51)
Overall Rating:

The only sporty scooter to buy. I bought my Runner SP 125 in Feb 2001, by July I'd had the Malossi 172cc kit fitted w carb kit, kevlar belt & malossi rollers. Ridden in all weathers it's stayed faithful through it's 9000 miles whilst commuting, going twos up on camping trips and generally blasting about on country roads. Top speed originally was about 75mph on the clock but it's more like 67-70mph so don't take the speedo as gospel. After running in the 172 conversion before the rollers where fitted, the top speed (on the clock) jumped upto 85 on the flat. The servicing is cheap depending on where you go (i.e. NOT Carnell) and you can get an average of 100 miles out of the 7.5 litre tank. Only gripes are that after riding for a few hours you'll feel it if you're a 6 footer like me due to the slightly cramped legroom and using the pegs doesn't help, although it's cool that you can use either the boards or pegs when on your own. There are tons of trick bits to get for the Runner if your interested in customizing and also lots of clubs popping up. I've stopped adding to mine for the meantime as I've been saving for a Fazer for touring in the summer..... but hey, I'm not getting rid of my Runner.

Runner is the best 5Occ. My only mate is NRG, it have the same Hi-Per 2 Pro engine but is 17kg lighter and the pipe between cylinder and exhaust is larger. If you put on it Malossi kevlar belt, pipe from NRG and lighter rollers... My runner goes 115kmh

Only Had the thing for 4 weeks, been back to the doctors three times. Carb fault, chain, even the filler cap was faulty. Never again.

Was great until it was tiefed from Camden one afternoon. Went rather quickly but handling was poor compared to my old Aprilia SR50 and it has absolutely zero space to carry stuff - no hooks, no handles, nothing to attach stuff to. But it is fun to ride...

Gilera DNA 50cc Sept '00 (X)
Overall Rating:

This was my first bike, and what a first bike! It was the coolest thing at the time, no-one could believe it was a 50cc scooter with looks like that! Turned heads everywhere when I had it as they weren't common then. However, it is the traditional Italian bike dilemma - looks great, hates rain. I got rid of it after pushing it 2 miles home. The spark plugs do not like getting wet. Oh well.
