Gilera DNA 125cc Sept '02 (52)
Overall Rating:
Review
I've had a DNA 125 for 7 months now and I've done well over 7,000 miles on it.
Cons: Drive belt broke.
Variator assembly came apart.
Variator assembly came apart.
HT lead snapped.
Variator asssembly stripped its teeth on the drive shaft (expensive!).
HT Lead snapped.
One of the tank catches snapped.
Clocks have filled with condensation.
Barke light connection from the right hand brake lever has failed.
So that's a fault approximately every three weeks. So as you can see build quality is very poor.
Pros: The actual engine is bullet proof (shame about the transmission).
Handles like a proper bike and is good for gaining riding experience.
Has good carrying capacity.
Is quick off the mark and nippy (my friend who I ride with -- he's on a Bandit 400 -- is often suprised at how quick it'll go).
It really is good fun.
It looks like a real bike, bikers often nod when they see you.

So as you can see I've loved this bike but it's been a real let down at times and it's ridiculously espensive to maintain. I can't wait to upgrade... Fazer 600 next I think.

This is one of the best scooters around - better than the Gilera Runner & Typhoon.. I'ts just de-restricted and does 45-50 on a straight and 57 down hill... I'm soon putting a sports exhaust on it so it should reach a top speed of 65 mph down hill...

I've had mine 4 a year and it went great 40mph all the way and it is only a 50, then I got it deristricted it went 55 mph but I had a few problems with the gear box. It might be because I thrashed it every where. It's a great bike for a ped and the only ped I would say is better would be an Italjet but every one has one of those

This has got to be the worst bike (dont know if it deserves to be called a bike) ever built. I went from a Speedfight 100 to this becuase I won it, lol and now ive sold it and got a Honda Varadero XL125V, which is a proper bike and its good. Oh and boys dont bother getting the 50cc version of this c**p heap, even with ur noisy exhausts and ur kevlar belt, I was still laughen at ya when I went past. Unfortuneately u would then laugh at me when something (which it always would) broke. Steer clear of this thing, its pants, get the Honda, much nicer, perfect ride and it looks the dogs nads!!

Very good acceleration, de-restricted does 55mph on the flat. I had a Leo Vince ZX fitted and for some reason it went about 64mph on the flat. Since I have fitted my Variator it has slowed down to about 57mph. Weird

Mine's an SP50 - Very nice bike to ride. I bought it second-hand and had to de-restrict myself as the previous owner was a woman and shops charge too much. I can get 55mph on then flat and 60mph with Malossi 7.2 racing rollers. Watch for 2 things though. When you have just filled up the tank do not try to wheelie it cause if you do all your petrol will come out of the overflow. Also do not try to turn corners too fast or your bike will slide out front end first.
