Gilera Runner 50cc Sept '02 (52)
Overall Rating:

I have had my Runner for a few months and I still get the same feeling of excitment every time I ride. The speed of the bike is fantastic and it holds the road brilliantly. The runner puts all other models to shame.

First bike and it feels better being able to grip with knees for leaning into corners, rather than with step through scooters. Did CBT on Zip50 and the DNA is so much better than that horrible little thing.<
>Top speed is a little disappointing compared with other 125s but then you're sat upright on a DNA so the wind buffeting at 70mph is quite enough with no fairing to protect you.<
>There doesn't seem to be a lot of aftermarket kit available compared with other scooters. Does anyone know of which aftermarket stuff is suitable for DNA125? What is the best way to make it go faster without increasing bore size? Where does a decent set of mirrors for it?<
>Good round town and can get away from lights fast with holding on back brake, build revs, then release brake. Overall very happy with it until I can afford direct access and get a manual shift bike.

Not bad bikes, get a bit uncomfortable after a few hrs of country lanes but handles like an absolute dream. Knee down actions is a piece of cake. Would be better if it had the gearing system from a Honda Cub 90, you know, manual transmission but auto clutch? That would boost my rating up to a 5. Apart from that, not bad at all, getting a side stand for it, take the centre off for more ground clearence, also, get a nice shiney sports can for it, and a tank pad. Then next summer, get it really going. Had it since September and already done 3000 miles on it...

Well she looks good and rides well, but try to tune one!!! Got a Hebo 70cc cylinder wouldn't fit thanks to Piaggio anti tamper crank case!! Only 5 rollers crappy standard exhaust and im sick of giving them the benifit of the doubt. I have most of the metal annodised big carb the variator is big enough one bonus!!!!! Fitted a cd player with speakers in the dummy tank Technigas next exhaust and too many extras to mention. Oh yes NOS as well budget fitted diy for 50 quid, maybe im just unlucky but I reckon the machine doesn't compensate on looks for how it works.... one pissed off punter.

You are all mad (most of you.) This 'bike' is nothing more than a glorified scooter. It looks like a bee on wheels and for the exhaust, well I have no comment on that. The best first bike you could get is Yamaha DT50, it just leaves the DNA standing on its own (hopefully out of the way somewhere in some dank dark corner).

I have a 125 Gilera DNA and have had nothing but trouble. The rain is the worst but I have found that you can get a spark plug cover to protect againt the rain. So if you having trouble with spark plugs buy an NGK spark plug cover, I haven't had any trouble since.

Bike looks the biz but disappointed with the engine. The throttle tends to get stuck, ie you can be driving and release the throttle but the bikes continues to rev higher and higher. Could anyone help me find the problem, my mechanic couldn't figure it so I thought someone here might have had the same problem?

I have a DNA 50 and love it to bits. It hasn't been derestricted yet but I know when it is I will love it! It handles superbly and looks great. I must admit this is a posers Bike/scooter, but it sure is damn good fun!
