All Honda CBX Reviews
Honda CBX 750cc 86/87 (D)
Overall Rating:
Review
The Honda CBX 750 was only made for 4 years and was a stop gap whilst Honda were developing the VFR.It is quite a big bike weighing some 218kg.It is a very easy bike to look after and maintenance on the engine is easy as it has hydralic tappets. This macine is very versatile,it can happily cruise around the scottish highlands two up or can be ridden hard down your favourite b road on a sunny sunday morning.Performance for a 20 year old bike is still very good and i have myself suprised a few riders on more modern machines, the power is mainly after about 7000rpm where it will go on to a top speed of about 135mph.The motor produces 91 bhp, the handling is good and the brakes not bad in standard form but can be made better with braided hoses.Overall if you are lookig for something reliable, quick, capable to carry a pillion, easy to maintain and service, low on insurance and hopefully a future classic then i would recommend a Honda CBX 750.

Have my cbx 4 years now.its an 86 model with 54000 miles.apart from the dreaded alternator chain going ping on it(a nasty job to fix, requires a full engine stripdown),I have never had any problems.Ultra reliable, ultra smooth and quick for an old bike, still able to leave many modern bikes in its wake.tops out round 140mph but its the way it gets there with a massive rush at 7000rpm.Currently fitting mine with wheels from a cbr1000f after a recent full resto.Plan to keep for many years.Insurance.£89 p.a

For a 22 year old bike, costing £500.00 you cant go wrong, goes very well. handles very well and stops very well, hydraulic tappets and electronic ignition mean maintenance is easy and parts are cheap from David Silver. Last of the air cooled muscle bikes

I posted a review on this bike a couple of years ago. I mentioned I had a problem with the gear selector fork and had to replace the engine. On closer insepction I had actually just broken a tooth on the drum selector which is easily accessible from the left of the engine. There was no need to replace the engine, I just replaced the drum selector. If you get similar problems (inconsistent gear selection etc) I would recommend you read this article on the RC17 website which shows how to replace this part and talks about other problems with the gear selector: http://www.teamrc17.net/tech/projects/gear_selector/index.html. I sold my bike 18 months ago, was still running well but starter motor packed for a second time! Starter motors ar getting hard to find for this bike now.

My Honda CBX750 is a sound all round bike. To maximise the engine life I suggest you change the oil every 2,000 miles. Mine is close to 50,000 miles now. If anyone need's a camchain I have a brandnew one for sale at

I've had my bike for six years now. A great all rounder that will keep up with a lot of modern bikes. 100% reliable. Good performance from a bike that is 18 years old. Being a Honda, the build quality is second to none. I ride my bike all year round and think it's a great bike to own, especially if your on a budget.
