Returned to motorcycling after a three year absence. Really wanted a VFR800 (which was my last bike) but I live in Melbourne, Aus, and have accumulated a few too many demerit (speeding) points. Chose a 2006 Deauville as it seemed to fit the bill of not being too pricey and providing a few weekend thrills without putting the licence at risk. Enjoy the comfort of the bike but must say I find the gearbox pretty agricultural. I've taken it back to the Honda shop for them to check it out as it gets quite rough in slow traffic. Pretty torquey motor for 680cc - mind you, it is a V-twin. It gets along quite nicely even though the bike weighs well over 200kg. First time I've had a proper topbox and heated grips. A gentleman's ride!

great bike for comfort, handling, fuel consumption, reliability.servicing is straight forward and easy.oil and filter change takes about 15 mins.only thing that can be a problem is corrosion and oil leaks from rocker gaskets.rusty exhaust pipes and silencer and have had the shaft drive filler bolt crack when attempting to loosen.the side crash protecters are very good though do tend to damage rest of fairing if dropped.panniers are small, would of prefered them to be removable. At motorway speeds can get over 55mpg but have been able to get over 60mpg(almost 200 miles before reserve turned on) Tyres last around 15000 miles and are quite cheap.handling is surprisingly good for a large bike, can scrape footpegs on roundabouts.can catch you out if you forget what you're on and push to hard.bike is quite slim so good for cutting through traffic.bike looks ok from front but panniers spoil it at rear end.good bike for touring or work but not fast.

Honda Deauville 700
I Bought the new 700 as the 650 did me very proud (115k), but the 700 has not faired nearly as well.
Got to 40k and am having to change the rear drive unit (which might end up making it a write off).
Other than that it is a nice bike, but it has left a sour taste.

Bought a new Deauville recently, because it is a lot lighter than the 1300 Pan. I quite like it though my wife finds the pillion seat uncomfortable after 45 mins and painful after an hour. Have spoken to Honda, with no joy. Does anyone else have this problem?. Has anyone cured it?
When the seat is removed it becomes apparent that the problem could be due to vibration transmitted to the seat pan under the pillion because there are no rubber blocks between the pan and frame, unlike the portion of seat under the rider which has three blocks on each side.
This is a shame because apart from this design flaw the Deauville is sturdy mid ranger.

Just bought the new Deauville. Absolutely love it.
Comfort, Style, Economy and undoubtably better with fuel injection and all the new features.
A perfect all rounder for as short a*$e like me(5ft 6).
Love the new dash layout too and even better with the fuel gauge.
Seems to handle better in the wind too.

With just 1,000 k's up, the bike handles really well at all speeds, is comfortable and the riding position is right, although I did fit 50mm risers for a more upright position and a large flip screen which I think is an absolute must. Also a Xenon bulb so my 55 year old eyes can see at night. Dropping the forks 25 mm sharpens already good handling and aids foot on ground manoeuvering. I use the panniers all the time, but having to remove the seat to secure the helmet is dopey! Three other areas of dissatisfaction are a noisy, clunky gearbox that occasionally drops out of second on acceleration, a loud harmonic noise at 4,000 under accelleration in all gears (problem with motor/fairing combination I would think) and the fuel economy. 4.8 litres/100 km sounds OK until you realize that a Honda Jazz can do as well or better and that's a motor car! Come on guys, you can do better than that! Next time? Well I'd go for a Suzuki Burgman. A truly amazing machine; hardly a scooter - think totally new paradigm.

I do about 15000k a year. The bike works really well to and from London.
My problem is exhaust rust. I am on my second and the exhaust has rusted up. The 1st replacement is free but the 2nd will be a problem. Anyone else suffered this problem

Well what can i say about this bike? Mine just hit 65K miles and STILL going as stong as ever, this bike will NOT let you down, 16K miles a year for me all year is easily covered by this bike. Motorway cruising is so effortless and now with a HID headlight night time is like riding in the day!!! I gave it 10 because its served me well and my dealer gets it about every 4-5K miles for a service, only minor problems I've had is with the regulator but I didn't help there so I cant blame the bike on that too much ;-) Tyres - I never put miches on, always something sticky, 2 sets per year is normal for me to get through and worth every penny when you lean it into a corner and scrape the exhaust!! Oops. Very nimble through traffic and you get SEEN on it, a flip up screen is a must if your over 5' 10" and want to sit more upright, had mine on since i bought it and its perfect. As I cover so many miles and through all weathers a few parts have had to be replaced, exhaust, front suspension bars have seen their share of winter salt in the UK and been eaten :-( All in all if you dont want to be picking up points on your licence this is a bike for you. I've been stopped a few times and a smile, slapped wrist and let on my way ;-) So would I get a new one? Hell yes, very good bike for your every day commute to work and that clear road blast, dont tell anyone but I have got up to 125mph on mine, lol. Whatever the weather, summer is a big smile time for traffic busting :-D
