Honda GL Goldwing
1800cc

Overall Rating:

Has got to be the best bike for touring, even when we accidently skidded on diesel getting on the ferry last week after holiday in Belgium, the bike landed gently on crash bars, not even fully over and no damage whatsoever.
Comfort and ease of handling make this the bike to ride.

Hmmm u-turns aren't a problem unless your pant leg hooks on the foot peg - then maybe and you freak out. Had that happen once on my 86 interstate stopping at the gas pump and i fell over like a sleeping cow. Lucky for the crashbars and wind direction I only snapped off the clutch grip then gotta pinch a vise grip onto the left over piece to make it again work to get home ( drag specialties stuff is cheap and the honda stock lever was more comfortable anyways.) Too many factory glitches with the 86 even though I feel it is one of the more stylish years. I went back to an older wing because of the overall toughness and the way they were built to last. Bought another with 24k on the speedo just to have spare parts. Put 6'' over tubes and a lower profile battleax tire on the rear, bigger jets and a (never regret this!) electronic ignition and a windshield I found and zip stripped to the bars. This scoot came with hard shell saddle cases (not vetter, vetter i feel is for geeks). These ones are the real deals for nostalgia looks and it seems when I raised the front end it levelled the cases because before they had this funky tilted angle to them(imagine that, now they look how they should) I am very happy to have a vintage machine that still kicks alotta ass out there and everyones a sucker for black beauties. A 1400 Suzuki isn't going to lose me. I went to goldwing because of the old lady...you gotta think about your passenger they need more room than you think and you want power and comfort especially when your packing momma and the wing ensures your partner won't be just another bimbo one night stand... the lady will want to go riding again and again! I rode an evo and thought it was only a noise maker(playing cards in the spokes) I want to go boy and I'm gone... H.D. has legroom but no balls. I have rode wings fully dressed and wings stripped and either way you got a machine that respects the world while capable of dishing out some sweet revenge in one form or another... people in cars that see my 28 yr old P.O.S. and think its tired and in their hectic way, better think again before cutting me off! BEEP~BEEP~YOUR~ASS!

My first Goldwing, and I love it. It handles great even with a big guy like me driving. I wish it didn't clunk in gear changes. Bought it with 30k miles. Its loaded. Paid 2400 for it. IS that great or what.

I had my wing for 3 weeks. It is a dream it is heavy but I am getting used to it. We {my son and I} have put 400 miles on it. I've ridden a lot of cycles in 30 years and so far it has the best ride yet. I'm try to find a good back rest for me, any idea's.

I loved my 1978 wing, my first bike. It did what it was supposed to do very well. It wasn’t too bad around town either. Hell, I even took my MC test, here in the states, on it and passed with colours!
Explored the interstates of California, Nevada, and used it as a daily commuter. My Wing never gave me a drop of trouble. The only down side was its was so smooth I couldn’t hear the engine.

Have Owned a GL 1200, but missed the back gear. I must say even the 1200 was good I feel me more comfortable on my GL 1500 more power, not so cloncky gear change. Its a very good long distance bike can highly recommand it ! I can say if you thing about a Goldwing and af GL1200 is an option choose the 1500 you will not regret it !

I own an 1100 that has given the best service and will keep it like one keeps a prize race horse that has been put to pasture. I also moved up in CCs to a 1500 and that is a dream to ride. In the city or on the open road it handles with ease. I have only owned Hondas, the first of which was a 350 street bike. The big bike is not for the novice especially the earlier models with a high center of gravity. The Goldwings have the power to get the job done at the slightest twist of the throttle. Again it is a great ride.

First started to ride as a die hard Harley rider. Then was talked into taking a ride on a Wing - BOY did that change the old mind and have been on them for the past 25 yrs now own a 95 /1500. I've put over 300 thousand as a total on 5 bikes I've owned. I stopped riding in 1998 and went to ride a new Evolution Harley. Well needless to say went back to Honda Goldwing " THERE IS NO COMPARISON'' It is the most fabulous bike on earth!

Neagtives are: Not enough leg room for a 6'2"; spongy front end in high speed turns (mostly fixed with new b/stones), clunky gearchanges (esp neutral to first). Otherwise nice bike. Will probably sell and buy DL650 V-strom.

My first 'wing and I'm 50 this year. Why didn't I do this years ago. Excellent bike all round. Need some bits though. Anyone know a good place in the uk for bits and pieces.
