I read a comment about the 125 Shadow. I would like to know the diameter of the tube/length fitted to the air box to improve performance,And also does the carb need re jetted, and the location of the hole in the exhaust pipe as I understand that the comment was about a 2001 model. Can this still be done to a 2005 model? I would be very grateful for any comment that could be made on this subject.

Although i dont own a VT125 bike, i actually drag race the engine. I'm 16 and do "junior drag bike racing". I hav been running the engine for 4 years now and have never had a single mechanical failure. I run it off a rather small lawn mower tank which'll last me about 7 funs down the track. I am 6ft tall so the bike had to be fairly big, the engine is waaaay bigger than it needs to be but that suits me fine for the purpose. At the moment its in a purpose built frame with a 17" dymag rear wheel and 7" slick, aprillia 125 upside down forks, electric shitfter etc. Its a brilliant little beast, with open carbs and open pipes it sounds at home along side all the harleys. My best time over the 1/8 mile is 11.5 seconds at 57mph, it could probably go quicker with more space and less weight but that doesnt really matter to me. The bike is currently for sale, so if anyone under 16 wants to go drag racing send me and email.

Picked it up for 1700, bang, off I went to France. No problems. Never ridden before, never toured before, strapped all my stuff to the back and rolled away. I'm six foot four and comfortable as anything, but partly because I strap my waterproof ortlieb bag behind the small of my back. Nearly finished my university course and plan to bike either to Morocco or all the way across the US - I'm staying with the VT.

It's a 125 V-Twin and I've had 83mph. Now bear in mind that an 883cc Harley only gets to 95ish (In a quicker time tho :) ). So its good quick and very efficient bike. I get around 90miles on the clock and then I fill it up. It does have a nice big reserve though. A few changes makes this bike very good (As I did to get 83mph, normally you get 65-70ish) Put a tube in the airfilter box (Inlet is at the back of air box) and push the other end of the tube under the tank and airbox to create a sort of ram air system. This dramatcally changes the bikes pick up as it can breathe a lot easier. Also under the exhaust is a small hole. Plug this for increased acceleration too. I've ordered a nice 13 toothed sprocket off ebay as well. The only bads points are that horrible rear drum brake that squeaks for the first few goes when wet until it warms up and the fact it has no fuel guage. Also there is no kick start as a back up and being picky my side stand spring comes off every 2 months or so. Saying that I've had mine for nearly 4 years and I love it. The BEST by far of the baby cruisers.

NV750 CUSTOM also known as VT750C in america etc. This bike is rare and fantastic, its unbelieveable - 750cc, 3 valve, liquid cooled v-twin has sacks full of power, and its looks are stunning. Handling and comfort are perfect! If you get the chance-buy one!

Mine has the distinction of being both my 1st and 7th bike (I sold it 6 years ago, and snapped it up in February when I found it again).< >It's done approcimately 65,000km (the speedo has been changed at some point) and still returns over 20km to the litre, although oil consumption is about 250ml per 500km.< >Handling is adequate for a commuter/tourer, I think it needs the rear preload set to full with 15W oil and 15PSI in the forks.< >The front disk cops a lot of flak, but it isn't such a big hassle once you've removed and replaced it a few times - just make sure you leave the disk on the wheel when you're getting a new tyre balanced! It does need a 5/8" master cylinder and soft pads to perform adequately though.< >I'm confident enough with mine to be taking it on a 14,000km tour around Australia in a few months (after it's passed a couple of 1,000km weekends of course).
