I have now had my Honda CBR 125 in Repsol colour for 7 months now and I am very happy with it. The acceleration at low speeds (below 55mph) are great for a 4 stroke bike however it takes ages tp get from 55-80mph as it has no top end power. Also as it is a 4 stroke it sounds like a proper motorbike so you don't feel like you are still riding a moped which i I feel is more important than going fast. Since having the bike I had to do no repairs apart from change the bulbs in the dash and the headlights. Overall a brilliant learner bike!!!

Overall a brilliant step up from a scooter, its not the fastest of 125cc bikes (about 70-75mph i get) but I wouldnt trade it for another 125...it looks great and rides well, sounds much better than a 2 stroke and is fairly comfortable.
On the reliability side of things, i've had the bike for almost a year and have had had to replace the engine due what i think was the last owner running it into the ground, as i have taken good care of it.
Overall a great "proper" starter bike.

Brilliant bike if you dont mind a top speed of 75mph, decent acceleration and a comfy ride along with good looks. The engine sounds good aswell...only problem ive had with mine is due to a previous owner, where the gears meshed and i needed a new engine...but so far sn problem with the new one =D all round a very good bike.

I brought one as a quick investment as it was cheap, to sell on and make a few pound, a racing bike, twitchy, lethal, hard, I am more a VFR man so like the handling, Comfort and appeal. Nothing could top a VFR, especially some race bike.
WOW how wrong I was ...... in all areas I have found my CBR to be stunning, selling it ...... NO WAY ...... its surprisingly comfortable especially with me at 6ft 3inch, the handling is second to none, breaking was poor with its original hoses but a set of braided sorted that out. The performance is there if you want it, or to cruise round and pose it’s ready. Insurance is always a big worry but shop around as I got fully com for £135 with no no claims.
I would never sell this bike now and ridden with care and love we will have a hopefully long life together. Well impressed and what makes it all the better the parts are still readily available.

I bought this bike new in September 2007 and have to say it is a cracking engine, good handler, comfy ride, happy at all speeds and economical in steady riding mode. After reading all the hype and reviews I took the plunge as the bike appeared to be bulletproof. I have owned Hondas before but the build quality of my Bird is not brilliant and the electrics are shocking - no pun intended. The paint has worn off the frame on the left side and the paint on the rear sidepanel is down to the black base plastic. At 6 months old I had my first spurious FI warning light saga caused by the hidden earth plug under taped into the loom under the left sidepanel. This That worked for a while before returning to the dealer for another clean up. The other day it cut out 3 times so was returned again on safety grounds, Honda are now replacing the complete loom under warranty. The bike is 14 months old with 15,000 miles and it is ridden in all weathers, all year round but I wouldn't buy another one of these which is a great shame.

The CBR 125 is the option to go for if you're looking for a quick off the line introductory sports bike. It's a lot nippier than the other 125's out there and accelerates extremely well up to around 50mph. The acceleration after this is not great-it takes a fairly long while to get up to 60, and you feel as though it takes forever getting up to the top speed of around 70-80mph, this isn't particularly great when traffic around you is accelerating up to these speeds much faster than you and it can seem daunting, however it is only a 125, so I would expect this. The handling on this bike is brilliant its very easy to ride and takes corners like a dream. However if you really want to go for some heavy duty leaning on this bike I would recommend buying some thicker tyres as the standard ones are ridiculously skinny and any over lean will result in you coming off. The MPG for this bike is brilliant you can't fault it. A full tank will cost you £7-8, and this will last around 100-150 miles. Spare parts are readily available and fairly cheap as well. The overall looks of the bike are fantastic, it looks like a slimmed down version of its bigger brothers, and it works because its different to the other 125's most of which are naked bikes. The CBR's stand in their own league design wise. When you see one pass you can't help but admire it's beauty.
Overall the CBR is a smashing bike and you can't fault it for being a 125 that's what it was designed to be. It's a corker and you'd be wrong to opt against it for a learner bike.

Our CBR1100XX Super Blackbird.
In the best colour Red. Wow what a bike. Handles like a dream, superb cornering, fast on acceleration. Comfortable seats for long hauls. As much fun as one can get with their clothes on. S*x on 2 wheels.

The jelly mould!
Mine is now minus fairing lowers after rear end shunt, after tidying up the wiring I think it looks better.
Handles predictably, can easily get the pegs down without getting out of shape, Bridgestone Battlax 45s good for grip wet and dry, good wear rate.
Will do 140 mph on the clock, pulls from 40 mph in top but doesnt take off until 6000revs.Can be soft and a revvy screamer too.
Does 45mpg average, can do 60 mpg or 22mpg.
Quite comfy seat good riding position, screen is a bit low and wind buffets your head unless you tuck in a bit.
The handlebars are at a weird angle but can be turned round on the fork tops if locating pins are removed.
Turn the forks round to one side and turn the bar until you can get two fingers in between the bar grip and the side of the tank.
Brakes need regular cleaning/ taking off calipers.Be careful you dont damage the piston heat inserts when squeezing the pistons back in.
WHAT GOES WRONG.

Mechanicals
Its a Honda so not much, however mine has done 100,000mls.
The cam chain tensioner sticks, so a rattle when starting now doesnt disappear, get another.DONT remove the plungerfrom the tensioner as someone suggests!
I replaced the cam chain at 50/000 mls it was still only part worn.
The cam followers are located into the head with a ball socket providing movement by the cam lobe, if a tinkle/ rattle comes from the head even though the tappets have been done, look here.the loose bit can sometimes be peened/centre punched around to tighten it up.
Tappets, yes it doesnt use shims!! adjustment lasts ages, which is good as access under the frame rails is limited.
The rear wheel spindle needs greased, I dont use coppaslip, white waterproof lithium grease is good for all parts, including brake pistons.

Early disks with lots of holes in can crack between holes, later discs with less holes fit.
The rear cush drive rubbers get compressed and can easily be replaced or shimmed up with a suitable material, I used buisness cards!! they dont get wet.
The fairing mounts and locating tags are VERY easily damaged(this is a 20 year old bike!!)

Electricals
The 3 yellow wires from the offside genny casing connect to the voltage rectifier on the frame behind the carbs, the connector at the rear end of the tank on the frame can corrode and burn out the connector, sometimes causing the battery/ rectifier to take a huff.Get a new set of connectors and holder from Lucas agent or city electricals(car stuff)
The headlight bulb and the beam height adjuster(near side under the clocks by near side headlamp shell)are a pig to get to, it may be easier to take the clocks off (5 screws)and lay them over to the near side.
I tried relays and a 100w/80w bulb, but the high beam terminal kept melting!! so I changed back to 60/55 and found the beam much brighter than standard. two relays will fit by the fuseholder under the nearside front cockpit filler panel.See google for info or get fused relays from Halfords,with instructions, or, a lot cheaper, a Lucas agent.
To get the oil filter off you can hammer a screwdriver through the filter side to side at the front and lever round to get off...be sure to have a new filter ready.

The ignition sender in the near side engine casing can go, with no sparks the motor will not run and the unit will have to be replaced, second hand is cheaper.

Despite all the above I have found the bike very reliable, easy handling with enough zip above 6000rpm to keep up with newer bikes on "A"&"B" roads, however above 120 on motorways it shows its age.
A downside for a bike 21 years old is people say "it doesnt look that old" which shows what a ground breaking bike it was.
Parts are starting to get harder to get esp plastics.
Anyone looking for a classic ish jap will find a great allrounder/ second bike which is far from boring.

the cbr 1100 is a superb machine to ride only thing you need to do to them is add a double bubble screen as the original is a bit low and a rear hugger to keep the crap off the rear shock.
comfort wise for me it lets it'self down but apart from that it's warp speed mr sulu, better looking than a busa and the kwak zx12 by a country mile. ok they both go quicker but where you going to ride at ballistic speed all day long.
reliabilty is a1 and build quality is rock solid.

A great bike, bought mine in 2000 with only 3000 miles on the clock, it's now completed 63,000+ miles, every mile i've notched up was fun, steadfast, the bike is powerful, comfortable over long distances and with good slow clutch control town riding is not a problem also, although to some the bike may seem heavy. I found it well balanced and the ride quality and handling are excellent even at 170mph plus. I've used it for commuting, teaching (CBT, DAS & Advanced instruction)for leisure and on track days, at which very few could outride me on it, this included Cadwell Park, Mallory & Rockingham circuits.
Most people who have owned one, remember it with praise for the excellent machine it is and out of the many bikes I have ridden professionally and otherwise I like it the most.
