THE FIRST TIME I SAW THE MODEL I LOVED THE JACKED UP LOOKS AND AS SOON AS I COULD AFFORD ONE I STARTED LOOKING FOR THE RED WHITE AND BLUE ONLY.
WHEN I FIRST RODE IT ALL THE BOXES WERE TICKED,ONLY THE RELIABILITY WAS AN UNKNOWN. FOURTEEN YEARS ON, AND ONLY SERVICES AND CONSUMABLES TICKS THAT BOX.
I COULD SPEND ALL DAY GIVING MY VIEWS AS I'VE RIDDEN ALL MANNER OF BIKES AND ALTHOUGH SOME MAY BE BETTER ON SOME AREAS OVERALL NOTHING ELSE COMPAREs TO THIS BIKE.

I bought a Fireblade RRN on a K plate, with about 35000 on the clock. Always wanted one of these from the first day I saw it new. How fast? You just had to think of where you wanted to go and you were already there.

As a great lover of Honda’s I guess you could say I was a bit bias. But this bike never let me down once in four and a half years. I would still have it now if I did not suffer with a medical condition that took me ages to recover after riding it.

Right, I first came across this bike when I went to check it out with a friend who was looking to buy it. LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT. Of course I told him to buy it; I would be looking after the thing as far as doing the business to it. One time I took it for a new back tyre, "will have to scrub it in for you" said I. Got a call a week later, someone had told him I had put a 1000 miles on it, He wanted it back. Fair enough said I just wanted to know the tyre was properly scrubbed in. Well the deal came along so I jumped at it with both hands. Now it was mine.

Best tell you a bit about it then.
First of all the comfort: As I am just a short arse. 5'6" I found it to be a perfect bike for me as far as comfort goes. Tall enough to reach the bars without having to transfer all my weight to my wrists, so no problem there. As for the seat I was only sat on it when I stopped, the rest of the time I was sliding over it either left or right. So overall I rate it as very comfortable. A bit scary for the pillion. Just sat out there in the hurricane blast while I hid behind the screen.

As for the handling: There had been nothing like the Blade before. It turned so sharp, if you were not giving it full concentration. It's got Ohlin’s up-rated fork springs as a treat and I dropped the fork oil by 5sae. Then spent the next week riding up and down the same stretch of road while I got the front and rear set how I wanted them. Its amazing how many different combinations of set up there is.

You can really screw it up big time if unlike me you did not keep a log of every setting, both before you alter and when you alter. When I had got it how I wanted it, it would go round just about anything as if it was on rails, and the harder I pushed the more firm it felt. A true thoroughbred.

Just a tip, I ran the tyres at the manufacturer’s pressure settings. Just slightly different to the Honda settings. On really hot days (do you remember them) I would run the front two pound under. This gave a more stable ride, less lightly to skip. So I gave handling top marks. (If yours don't handle then get it set up properly, you don’t know what you are missing)

Braking: I had only ever ridden one bike that stopped better than the Blade. (Hanging head in shame)That was a R6. It stopped on a dime. Besides that one, the Blade did all I wanted and more as far as the brakes were concerned. It had braided hoses when I got it so I cannot say how it was before. The one thing I have to say is that it was very forgiving on the brakes. It was the only sports bike I know of that would let me brake right into the corner without getting all out of shape. So I have given the braking a 5.

Fuel economy is not really the right words when talking about the blade. Although you could return about 150 miles on a full tank if you were careful, we have to remember it’s a sports bike. They don’t lend themselves to just popping along. Why buy a race horse then just canter it? If I used it how it should be used, I would have to fuel up at about 100 miles, which considering, was not that bad. (Not that I ever broke the speed limit, honest ocifer) If you want good returns on fuel buy a moped.

Running costs were not so bad. Insurance was expensive considering my age. I would say Fireblade; they would all cheer and grab the holiday brochures. I tried in vain to explain it was more than 12 years old and could be beaten by bikes that were a lot cheaper on insurance. (How can you call a Blackbird a sports tourer with that turn of speed?) Back tyres would last about 3-4000 miles depending on make and time of year. Chain and sprocket sets would last about 7-8000 miles depending again on the time of year. Beside that all other work was done by me. So I have given running costs a 3. But it’s a sports bike; they are high maintenance if you want to be safe.

Reliability. What can I say? It’s a Honda. Solid as a rock. Just do the daily / weekly things and get it serviced when it needs it. Beside that mine ticked on endlessly. Although I am a bit of a fiddler, always checking things. What cost safety?

Performance. I know it’s an old cliché, best fun you can have with your clothes on. It was the only bike I have ever felt butterflies in my stomach as I was about to get on, even the last ride after four and a half years. I just did not know what adventures we would have next. All I knew for sure was it was going to be exciting, no matter how far I was going, I always knew it was going to be great. It could nearly rip your arms off or it could be gentle as a lamb. Just about always forgiving, but sometimes it would shake its head just to let me know I needed to not get complacent with it. Every ride was full on focus at all times, no time for daydreamers here. Leaving the world behind as you wind the throttle open was such a rush, it could become addictive. (Not good if you want to keep your licence).

Really every part of the whole biking experience was a pleasure. Brakes, tyres, ride ability, suspension, balance. Fun factor. Defiantly a 5.

Dream appeal. As I said earlier, I had always wanted one of these bikes from the first time I saw it. I am so pleased I was lucky to have owned one of the first models. This bike took the world by the throat and gave it a good shaking up. We should all be grateful to the HONDA FIREBLADE for making biking what it is today. And even more thankful to Tadao Baba for the vision and ability to think outside the box.
Overall score has really to be a 5 as this bike is everything to all people. Be you fat, thin, tall, short, man or woman. You should all at least experience the bike that started it all for the sports fans.

Regret to say I dont like my UK 95 CBR1000FS and am getting shot of it after only owning it for 4 months. The front end is heavy, turning circle poor, if you have big hands they touch the tank on full lock. The main problem is the engine: there is too much engine braking which makes for a harsh ride around town. There is an annoying flat spot from 1-3k revs which means you are continually fumbling for gears to get it to perform around town: got it dyno tested (it has Micron 4 into 1) he says "there's nothing wrong with it it's just the characteristics of that particular model". Only things good are the linked brakes and it looks good. Why did you buy it you may ask? Sometimes it takes a couple of days to realise that your new (secondhand) bike is pants, never had these probs with a bike before and this is my 23rd, will be looking out next time though. Just as well I kept my 1985 GPZ900: its a much more fun bike to ride: when you come off the throttle there's no interference from the engine. If the CBR is what all modern 4 cylinder bikes are like then I don't want another, am planning 2 get ZRX1100 but will take it for a LONG test run before I buy it!! The moral of the story is: don't buy a bike on Ebay unless you can test it thoroughly before committing to buy.

Well
the Honda CBR 125!!!!

This bike has impressed me in so many ways.

(1) Breaks are twin cylinder, very powerful and effective
(2) SOCH 125 engine delivers a very powerful and precise range
(3) 2 man up, the bike still performs well, however a reduction in accelerations is effected quite alot, top speed is not however
(4) Acceleration, very impressed, very impressed
(5) top speed, i know there is so much rumors about this bike top speed, well let me set the record straight OK.
TOP SPEED = 92mph, downhill, with driver in a aerodynamic position, i weigh 11stone
(6) speed on straight with no wind and engine warmed up with driver in aerodynamic position, 84mph - this is on a motorway after a good 1.5hours of engine warming
(7) reliability = not a single problem for 7000miles , only one thing actually, the light bulb needed changing
(8)cornering = amazing, because the bike is sooo light, you can literally throw this bike around corners.
(9) motorway riding = uncomfortable, to get best speeds with this bike you need to be right down, if your in the upright position , you loose literally 20mph. The bike is small and is not recommended for anyone over 5'9 or over 13stone
(10) UPGRADES = Malossi 166kit cylinder kit - which will make your bike do about 130, im purchasing this today
Micron or Scorpion Exhaust, scorpion do a full system micron do not - this will add speed acceleration and better sound.
(11) FUEL CONSUMPTION = 130 miles when driving at an uncelebrated constant. I drove from London to Central Dorset (127miles) on a Single tanks which is roughly now about £8.50

Hope this helped

A great bike, my first love in a bike but sadly it was hit by a car and I was injured too. The bike I had was an '89' was black and charcoal grey. the bike had 29,000 miles which i added 3000miles in 3 months. Im an all weather rider and the bike went on a little tour with me saw bad weather and carried on making that sweet tune. I also did a bit of bodging (oops) and added a '96' fireblade exhaust which shot flames out of and everyone knew i was coming. The bike had seen some better days and only had one problem with it was battery which soon failed on me which was soon changed. i had a restriction on it and it did 110mph and could stay at it all day. If anyone is thinking about buying one i would say put money down on it you wont regret it as I now have a yamaha FZR600 and on full power which i have now had many problems with and currently looking to buy another honda CBR400 because like i said it was my first love. I also run a website called southeastbrothers so check it out at; www.southeastbrothers.co.nr and feel free to contact me on that would love to answer questions and if u already own one discuss info about it. Anyways safe riding! -oneballpaul- -paulwyse-

The Blackbird is a superb bike. Purchased new in March '02 and it's just approaching 48,000 miles. Only problem has been a charging one diagnosed (alternator) and sorted with the asistance of Jaws. I've fitted a Maxton shock and fork upgrade which has transformed the handling. An Akrapovic 4:1 system looks pretty and saves loads of weight. CBS braking system is fine but I'll be fitting stainless hoses and take the oportunity to de-link. Kit will be purchased from Jaws. I'll only consider changing when the new Bird comes out. Let's hope Honda don;t screw it up loike they did with the V-Tec VFR.
