I took a Hornet out on a test ride when they first came out in 1998. It was my first time on a big bike since I passed my test, and it blew me away. Have owned various bikes since then, but never really been happy. I've owned a GPX250, which was cheap but too slow, a KMX125 which was great in the power band but not really my thing, a ZZR600 which was very fast but a bit soft, and finally a TL1000R which I had to sell before I killed myself. Its only after buying a Hornet last week that I realised what real biking is all about. A great looking bike thats reliable, has a good riding position, doesn't let you go a silly speeds thanks to the wind blast, and is as fast as f*** (real world fast not magazine article fast!). Think I'll be holding on to this one for a while.

Steph appears to have the attributes to become a successful politician. Didn't you odometer indicate how many miles you had travelled from "fill up" to "empty" Steph?

My first bike and I've had it a year, great fun for a first time biker like me, great handling, great engine and reliable. I want something with a few more horses under it now though. I changed the sprockets and the ugly exhaust then got it dynojetted like most people do which gives it a bit more poke. I'll be sad to see it go when the time comes, It has better performance than the Bandit 600 and not as common either which is alway a good thing. Since I've started pushing it a bit harder I've noticed the brakes aren't as sharp as I would like and the suspension is a tad soft, but then again as a learner you dont want very sensitive brake or shocks for that matter. If you're new to biking or don't need a bike that tops 140mph cause this won't and like to travel in comfort this is the bike for you. What it will do is 135mph if you hold on tight enough and 0-60 near enough to 3.5 seconds to surprise most sportsbikes.

Bought my Hornet in April '04. Very nice bike. Extremely stable, which is ideal for a first time rider like me. Frightenly fast when you want some fun! Cheap, reliable, great all-rounder. Don't delay, buy one today!

I got my Hornet after a Kawasaki ER5. I commute to work and ride weekends for fun. I wanted a small light fun bike. Firstly plusses: yes it's fun and very lively, light but feels very secure in all road conditions. Minuses: range, 100 miles before reserve. OK the stated tank capacity may be 16 litres but you can't get that in as you have no centre stand, therefore you have a sloped tank. I went on reserve then could only get 8 litres in. Also no fuel gauge!! No way to attach any luggage as no rear hooks, very twitchy accelerator - hit a bump at 30 and you are liable to take off. All in all, a fun bike but don't buy it for commuting or touring.

Take a CBR600, rip off most of the fairing, shove on huge Fireblade wheels and a tiny fuel tank and you've got a Hornet. Handles well, goes fast enough and runs out of fuel at 100miles. Whats the point in that? Honda please put a 20litre tank on this bike!

Excellent bike! 2000 model (17" wheel, stainless exhausts) in pearl yellow looks the business (the only colour a Hornet should be?) Extras: Micron oval carbon can, colour matched belly pan - looking to fit a hugger and screen soon. I love the bike - it's does everything I ask of it - screams about when I want to go fast, just as useful pottering about town, and can even carry me and the missus away for a day out. Thinking of swapping it for a Firestorm - but the cheap insurance on the Hornet makes me want to keep it.
