Honda VFR 400cc Sept '99 (V)

Well, my VFR400 has been in the family 3 years now and I have came to own it. Repsol colours are just gorgeous! Got a full race system - I dont even know who its made by but its bloody loud, spits flames at 10,000 rpm and it howls! Keep on top of the mothers, watch out for reg/rec problems and fouled plugs. Open them up, use them and chase the boys round the twisties! and youll love it!

Owned my VFR for one year now after a string of two strokers and a FJ1200. I got it after some bozo threw it down the road!! Cost me nearly 2k to get it back to split mint condition and now loving every minute on it. Without doubt the best bike I have ever owned. Good for 150mph and totally relaxing even after 4hours in the saddle. Absolutely unburstable V4 motor with excellent reliability and build quality. I cant see myself owning anything else, ever!! well, maybe a VTec 800. Everyone should have one!

I got my NC30 on 3rd july 04 and its Friday the 9th today and f**king hell ive had fun on this bike. It does 65 MPH in first gear! and handles sooo well. I'm 19 and this bike pulls the chicks like there's no tomorow! I go out on it and arrive back home with pure adrenalin swishing around in my mouth. Trust me, this bike is SUPER SWEET! and sounds heavy (Viper can). I was lucky enough to pick mine up for

I've had this bike about 3 months now and its pretty dam good! I'm only 18 and passed me test not long ago so I had to have it restricted to 33bhp which makes it a bit slugish sometimes but yet it still got quite a bit of go in it! The restricter kit is an utter piss take tho as you're paying bout

According to American Honda, U.S. sales of the VFR800 are very good, more than double the sales rate of the VFR750 at this time last year. This is heartening because it shows the the American market will support a quality "tweener" bike in what is generally a niche-specific market. Some have complained that the 800 is just too comfortable to be considered a real sportbike, with one British magazine dismissing the VFR outright for top sportbike awards because it feels like a "sofa." Obviously there are few Gold Wings in England. On the left side of the Pond some American wags have complained that the VFR should have come with hardbags. Ick. Even though it doesn't produce 120 hp at the rear wheel and you don't have to make monthly visits to a chiropractor if you ride one regularly, this is still, first and foremost, a sportbike, and a carefully designed, well-balanced and attractive sportbike, at that. Hardbags will add weight, and most likely upset the well-thought-out aerodynamics, handling and performance characteristics. And hardbags will look ugly. Besides, we don't find anything wrong with a tank bag and a good set of softbags. Sure, softbags aren't as "secure", but soft bags don't use keys that can be lost and they don't break. We like this bike. We like it a lot. It's more than a sportbike for the "real world." Though it may not be competitive at local club races, it will blow any sport-tourer sold clear out of the water, it will keep up with any 600 bike and it will more than hold its own in any street riding environment under any conditions against all but the best-ridden open-class bikes. The biggest knock against the 750 was it's price. However with the new design and all the corresponding improvements, the VFR800FI is well worth it's price tag. A really great bike, real quality except for the alloy bits and a mild-steel collector box that can't cope with a British winter. Mine's done almost 52,000 miles yet that V4 still purrs away. I've kept it fairly standard. It has decent lights, a comfy seat, is quick enough when you want it to be and will do 45mpg. Best rubber is Bridgestone BT020. Had to throw away the old exhaust system because of advanced rust but replaced it with a Motad stainless steel system at half the cost of the rubbish Honda part. Would only swap it for a VFR800 - but not the silly and expensive-to-service VTEC version.

Most bikes have a vunerable side. To most it depends if this is expensive. I have been using my VFR400 (NC24) for over a year, doing 400 miles/ week, to work. It is very reliable, and I am averaging 56 MPG. Flat out it will do about 127mph as per KM clock, and calibrated with a friend (CBX750). The problems with it are: (1) expensive consumables i.e. tyres, c+s, pads. (2) Access to the top end (valve adjustment) is time consuming and difficult ( even if you are a dwarf) (3) the rectifyer/regulator goes ( as with all(most) hondas of that era. look for a superdream or other classic replacement with fins. (4) The front forks are too weedy, and they need bulking, resist putting in air as the seals are quite weak. heavy fork oil is best. Overall this is one of the best all rounders, light, agile, economical, reliable. I took mine to France from Ireland I had so much faith in it despite 50K miles. Best bike for a budget biker climbing.

My VFR400 is a little gem. It's just phenomenal round corners and on the straights, providing you are in the right gear, it just flies.

My 'very old' VFR400-NC21 has a single headlamp unit and no upper or lower fairing and has upright handlebars. Imported from Japan. I bought it two year ago - rode it for 6 months until the mid section of the exhaust fell apart. After 3 months of searching I eventually obtained the parts required, a further 3 months later and it was finally fixed (engine removal was the only way to fit this motha). After a few tweaks here and there - suspension overhauls, caliper overhauls, etc. my bike is now in peak condition - apart from the fact that its missing a belly pan - if you know where I can get one I would be grateful.

I have had the bike for 7 months now and been very impressed with its reliability, handling, acceleration and of course looks. But Today has been very special I went round my local twisty road and got my knee down for the first time (my old trousers didnt have sliders so wasn't going to try before)and on my way to university with a tail wind I managed to hit 145 mph on a 400cc thats phenomenal (i think my bike may have a slight tune on it as its producing 63 bhp)< >< >P.S. if you ever need special parts try www.nc30club.co.uk or elliots motorcycles
