Im new to bikes and didnt have a clue what to buy. But this comet stuck out like a sore thumb! Just had to have it. I had herd so many good things about it and my partner whos a bike machanic liked it to (a bonus)!
Ive had the bike 3wks now and have loved every min of it. It handles just like a big bike(so my partner says, he owns a 1200 bandit so ill take his word for it)! It corners well, although i panic it still holds. Its soo conmfortable, i can ride for miles and not ache.
Ive covered just over 600miles and ive only spent £45 on fuel, with a tank full at the mo.
It looks the part. I didnt want a stupid little scooter. I wanted summat that had some sort of balls. It doesnt look like a 125. Ive had so many men ask me what size engine it is and wouldnt believe me when i said a 125. They thought it was de-resricted! The L plates kinda give it away. My bloke says without them you would never think it was that small an engine.
We have had to lower it 3" as im only 5"2. so its VERY low to to ground. It makes going above 30mph on bumpy country roads impossible as the bottom of the stand scrapes on the floor! This obviously wouldnt be a problem if i wernt so short!
It sounds good too. Not like these other 125s, that sound like you strangling a cat every time you open the throttle! Sounds like a big bike, well almost...
Should sound even better when i fit this remus can my bloke gave me! Fingers crossed!
Now the bad points...
The exhaust has rusted so badly it looks like it will crumble away! They say its £150 for a hyosung replacement?! The can does look good, till you look down the end of it.
Ive had problems with the gear box since day one. Its a bugger to get into neutral. Most of the time you have to turn the engine off then on and then it will do it. We ajusted the clutch leaver and that seemed to help a little. Im finding myself keep puting it into neutral instead of 1st or 2nd. It does it easily when you dont want it to!
Then this morning, i go out to go for a cruse along the coast on a bright summers day...and what do i find... both my fork seals have blown and oils pissing out, dripping down both sides all over my brakes and had made 2 lovely shiny puddles on the road! ffs! Turns out these bike are notorious for having pitting on the forks??? Bad chrome? Makes the seals blow and aparently costs £300 for new forks! Great...
So im not best pleased at the mo, as ill now have to go back to relying on the great british public transport... a bus.
Other than the fork seals and the gear box im extreamly pleased. Nothing that cant be fixed. Its a great ride and i would recomend it to anyone. Although I am bored of it now and am looking at selling it and getting a bigger bike once ive done my full test.
Any offers? lol

I'm new to driving bikes but i'v seen enough to know whats what, this bike exeeds all other 125's in looks no doubt but the speed is limited by its sheer size i would brand this the perfect starting bike, personlly i think it could be faster but who needs to go fast when your looking so f*****g cool!

Excellent bike but not without its flaws. Looks Fab, Handles stable due to massive tyres (can cost £90 to replace), i get 75mph fairly easy out of it. Sounds great with standard exhaust can. BUT, when buying check forks for pitting (small indents in chrome fork stantion) as the quality of chroming is poor and if the forks are pitted its £300 for a new set new as the seals will blow and piss oil. Rusts quickly, gearbox is rubbish compared to honda's. Mine has developed a flatspot at 5k revs (crap stuck in carb). but dont be put off its a great bike just buy it with the accoumpanyment of someone who knows there stuuf. (CHOOSE LOW MILEAGE OVER YEAR BUT DONT BUY PREVIOUS TO 04 AS 03 MODDELS ARE NOTOURIOUSLY BAD)

this is my bike the hyosung gt125r i have never seen so many aftermarket exhaust cans etc for a 125cc all my aftermarkets are a bmc air filter,k&n oil filter, jet kit, blue flame evo exhaust (carbon fibre), rear tyre hugger, single seat cowl,hm plant transfer kit ,o ring chain and race sprocket set.
awaiting to fit the undertail tidy kit for extra wow lol . so beats many 125cc bikes for after market parts

Hyosung Comet 125
I bought my Comet second hand for £850 delivered, which is already a bargain compared to a similar condition RS or CBR!! But on top of that it beats both of them!!
OK maybe not as fast as the RS but its twice the size, this is a proper motorbike, my dads got a 600 Fazer and this is just as big. Being a 4-stroke its not super fast how ever there are now quite a few performance parts out there, you just have to look!!
This is my first bike and is everything I could ever want in a learner bike!!

Now I've been riding this bike for 2 years now and as far as 125 machines go this is impresive, there's nothing else near it size wise out there, Honda, Yamaha, nothing at all.The price is a little high as you can get chaeper machines than this one but the bike holds its own performance wise with any of them. The engine is great and very reliable and mpg is fantastic. The top end on this bike is a comfortable 70 mph but I have had mine up to 80 mph(down hill with the wind behind me).I've just up graded to the GT125R so its with a sad heart that I let her go but I can't find a single bad point about this bike.

I bought my Hyosung Comet GT125R because I was looking for a bike that looked big but was legal to ride on a CBT and being 35 I didn't see myself on a scooter. Have used it mainly for comuting and everyone that has seen this bike has been impressed by the size and sound of it . The handling is very good. Im 5ft 6 with a belly to match :) and worried about the size of the bike but have found it is very comfortable to ride . I've had it up to 76 on the flat but it was pushing 13000 revs but will comfortably do 65 at between 8-9000 revs. I paid under £300 fully comp insurance so very pleased as was my wallet. Overall I would recommend the GT125R for a learner it looks good sounds great and shouldnt cost the earth to run.

I bought my Hyosung Comet 125 because I was looking for a bike for after I took my CBT but wanted a big bike rather than a scooter. The Comet can be mistaken as a more powerful bike due to the size of it, and the engine sounds more like a 250cc.

The handling on the Comet is very good, however it only manages 55-60 mph at full revs. The bike is quite heavy however the build quality is very good and the engine is reliable (I haven't had any problems with mine). The only slight fault with the design of the bike is that it could do with twin brakes on the front as it's a heavy bike.

You can get approximately 70 miles to the gallon on the Comet so it's very economical. The insurance is cheap on the comet, as a learner rider I pay £19 a month for mine.

Overall I would recommend the comet for a learner however if you have a full licence I would recommend something more powerful.

ok the 125 is really a 250 with 125 cylinders thats why its a bit slow, its a fantastic bike it was next to an R1 when i picked it up and looked as big (the tank is about an inch higher than the R1)cant knock this bike had a TZR before this and yes it went like stink but this is a big heavy bike with only 15bhp but if you do wind it up its not that bad for what it is, if you want more power go pass you test and get some or get a 2 stroke
for a learner its a good choice (theres not a 125 on the road i'd swap mine for)
