Kawasaki GT 500cc 92/93 (K)
Overall Rating:

Once the favourite of motorcycle couriers everywhere, the GT550 has gained classic status in recent years as good models become hard to find and the assets which it has in spades are recognised as far ahead of its time.

The GT500 has no vices. Stable at speeds from city traffic to motorway, it gives good handling for the mainstream biker combined with fuel economy and, being shaft drive, no messy chains to adjust or lubricate.

A timeless classic now appreciating in value.

Kawasaki VN800

This bike will always 'do what it says on the box', only one problem, after 30 miles you need a stop to get the blood flowing back into your ass cheeks , the seat is as hard as nails!!

Kawasaki VN800
I admit to liking the polishing and cleaning side of bike ownership, the VN800 has alot of chrome on board which keeps me busy, it's a great bike, reliable and comfortable, manages regular 200 mile trips to Cornwall with no problems. The only downside is (apparently) the rear pillion seat which I've been told is a bit too hard (shame)!

Kawasaki ER-5 500cc Apr '04 (04)
Overall Rating:
Review
Kawasaki ER-5

This is my first big bike and my third bike of any kind.
I was surprised how easy it was to control compared to my old 125 of nearly half the weight.
The seat is very low, i'm only 5'9" and can put down both feet with knees bent. There's also enough room under the seat for a 1m chain, padlock AND a disc lock.

Before I picked this bike I was crawling through reviews on sites like this for ages. Alot of people say the ER-5 is weak, boring and ugly. I'd have to disagree!
I only paid £1400 for a one owner, 6000 mile ER-5. What I got in return was a bike that wasn't afraid of being left outside, gets to 60 as quick as I need it to, without leaving me at the lights.
It's also deadly cheap to insure; only £350 TPFT for me at 21, with a recent theft claim. I took my test on a Suzuki GS500E which for the record is AWFUL.
I did the first day of my DAS on an ER-5 and it was lovely. The Suzuki was inceredibly uncomfortable, the bars seemed to be at the wrong angle for human arms, it was slow, unresponsive and gave me a really sore arse. By comparison the ER5 is a dream.

I took mine on a 600 mile 3 day trip to Cornwall with LOADS of luggage (35 litre box, tank bag and back pack, all full up) and my girlfriend on the back. We cruised at 75-80 with ease on the motorways and had no problems pulling off at lights and roundabouts. The bike (for me at least) was comfortable the whole way. It might be worth while pointing out that this bike reacts very strongly to weight; I'm only just over 8st, so for me riding alone it feels very powerful and the brakes are reasonable, but for anyone heavier than about 11st i'd expect it to drag a bit and for the brakes to worry you..
The front brake, I think can be made to work, but the rear drum brake is a joke. I sometimes wish i'd bought the pig ugly GPZ instead.

Fuel economy is amazing, better than I'd ever dreamed. I usually get 180-190 miles per tank, and that's even with quite alot of pillion carrying.

All in all this is a really cheap bike that runs even cheaper. It always works and not many people really want to steal it, which is good! It's not the prettiest of bikes, but with some polish and maybe an aftermarket screen it can look nice.

Kawasaki EL Eliminator 250cc 88/89 (F)
Overall Rating:
Review
Kawasaki 250 Eliminator
I've ridden a million miles on a million bikes, from 4 HP "Pull-start" scramblers to ultra modern Harley Davidson's and BMW's. So when considering a bike under the 33 BHP limit for my learner friend we tried several bikes and bought the Kawasaki EL250.
It has got to be one of the most fun and easiest bikes to ride.
First, they're just so easy to ride. Second, they're fast. Third, they hold their own.
I mean when you're going by a juggernought, that's going past you on an "A" road, and you're both doing 60 MPH, you don't get sucked in.
I recently rode a 125 Marauder, and although it was fun, it wasn't as clean to ride. The turning radius wasn't as tight and to say the 250 is twice the bike (literally in cc's) as a joke, the 125 just pales in comparison.
You can't take a 125 on the motorway, the wind will slow you down. You can't overtake on a 125 unless you're winding the revs too much.
The 250 pulls fast and holds it's speed, the 250 can handle it easily, I was surprised.
I'm converted. I normally ride larger sports/tourers, but I would seriously consider an Eliminator as my main ride. Excellent.
