Kawasaki AR
50cc
90/91 (H)
Overall Rating:
Review
I've got an AR50 with an AR80 engine (well, 93cc now). Prepared by BDK race engineering, this bike is capable of well over 90mph (got the dyno printout to prove she clocks 15.5bhp at 3/4 power).
The amount of work needed to get this bike to this standard is unbelievable, and she's in mint condition too. An absolute pleasure to ride and more fun than you could ever believe - I get all sorts asking about her wherever I go.
Sadly, I've got a RS125 track bike and a supermoto too, and having 3 bikes is a bit greedy now, isn't it? So 2 have to go, and naturally I’m keeping the RS125, she clocks just over 40bhp on the dyno – absolutely unbelievable… Have a look at the pictures I've uploaded. I'm asking £1500 - have a look at my preloved advert too or drop me a line on 07962 667726 and ask for Lionel

I have had many bikes, The Rd350 ypvs, the yzf R6 2001 which was an amazing bike for a 600cc, the TL1000sx completely utterly mental and even tried supermoto ktm sublime handling that a superbike cannot match but lack grunt on the straights and road legal quad pointless cant get through traffic. The thing is I always ended up looking at the Kawasaki Zxr750 when looking through my local motorcycle shop, dazzled by its beauty and build quality but never bought one because I was more interested in power to weight and stupid things like that because of what bikes my friends had etc, Its a design that may never age, has the performance of an R6 but is more drivable because of the extra cc's, the Zxr has the edge over the R6 when it comes to top end at an incredible 176mph, may weigh more but once rolling it handles like no other bike I have owned. It goes, stops and turns like a dream, because of the weight it feels planted and does not get thrown around in the wind. I bought my Zxr750 P4, 6 months ago because ive always wanted one and now im not riding around with loads of other guys getting the old red mist I took the plunge and now wish I had much much earlier. A great bike, get one but make sure its well maintained with service records. Have fun. Phil

I had a 1988 kmx 125 that had been converted into a motocross bike it was quite good little bike, untill the engine blow.I then went out and bought a 2002 kmx 125 engine(with low mileage),A Full Dep exhust,K'n'N Air & Oil Filters,I then put bigger jets in the carbs,Then a lot of love and care and fine tuning went into it.I then hit the hills like a dog on heat!!!It was insane.I raced a 2002 Yamaha Yz 125(Made him eat my dust lol)I then raced a kawasaki kx 250 (Little boy on a big bike) he had the take off but belive it or not i had the top speed Unbliveable!!! Just before it was crushed i drag race my dad in his BMW 720i at a nearby air filed that was abandoned,Just before the air field finshed my dads speedo quite clearly said 110MPH!!! So there is my story of my old kawasaki Kmx 125 that was crushed on the 21/8/06 R.I.P KMX

Bought this bike 12 months ago (2007)and have used it nearly every day for commuting to work, for which it never fails to put a smile on me face. I also toured round Spain and France for a few days in September last year, traveling companions were an R1200GS and Multi Strada. Probably the best commuting bike nor the best touring steed but as an all-rounder it is great. Average mpg to date is 48 mpg! Servicing costs are pretty reasonable (I don’t use a dealership).

This was my first big bike and was chosen after reading several reviews and seeing it in the flesh.
Not to everyone’s taste but to me it looks like a Jap copy of a Ducati Monster but without the running costs! The other reason I bought it was because it was spanking new and cost only £3500 with £90 insurance – second hand bike money!
Engine – Smooth and powerful, easily loose your license but not too mad being an inline twin.
Will pull away in 5th (with a bit of clutch) so for the novice its excellent.
Gearbox – Smooth and precise - neutral is easy to find. Maybe slightly low geared as I found myself looking for another gear in top – keeps you thinking about the speed which is a good thing!
Comfort – Seat is well padded and really low, at 5ft 8” I could easily touch the ground with both feet. I didn’t like the amount of wind blast at speed, I felt like I was hanging on for dear life on a few occasions, they do a screen for the front but I think it looks crap so would put up with the wind or stay off the motorways!
Running costs – mpg was pretty good – all depends on your right wrist! Tax was £60 if I remember rightly and my first service cost £30 so its not going to break the bank.
Looks – I like it – mine was black with the gold frame but the new blue for 2007 looks ace!
Brakes - took a while to bed in from new, I had a few scary moments but one it had done a few miles the brakes were superb, stops quickly and very controlled.
Would I buy another – yes without a doubt, great bike, good commuter as its easy to get through the traffic and good for a blast on a Sunday!

Fantastic looking bike, very muscular and beautiful Very similar to Z1000 in fact could be its baby bro!
100 bhp as standard but for more thrills add a power commander- Handles well, corners are where it comes into it's own, however if you ride hard you will need to sort the suspension as the front a
bit too soft and rear too hard and even tweaking the 4 step adjustment aint gonna make much difference.
Brakes ok as standard, but ugrade if you have the dosh, also a flyscreen is probably a good idea as windblast over 70mph can be tough on your neck, so this will make for more comfortable riding over distances.
Standard cans not too bad looking - but save your pennies and get Akrapovics on - WOW now thats how a bike should sound!
Clocks and display rather tasty but the digital rev counter hard to see in direct sunlight- (Good excuse when old plod pull you)
If you want a good all rounder this is the bike for you, can do it all, from being a reliable commuter to a fun filled machine when let loose on the twistys.

Always wanted a ZX6 and now I have one. Love it!
Great performance rapid brakes and immense handling.
Loadsa MPG and the tank's deeper than my pockets!
Only negative I can draw on is the overall comfort of the bike, but being a sports bike I guess this can be expected. I myself fitted the handlebar conversion which has greatly improved the comfort of the bike, and I'd recommend this to anyone who suffers the back/neck pains that come with sports bikes.
My dream bike. Barrels of fun and keeps up with the best of them!

The 636 is a good all rounder in my view but there are a few little niggles with it.
Try looking behind you whilst riding and if you're a well built person, then all you'll see is your body and arms. The bars are not too clever 'cause not enough clearance between hands and top of fairing and can be a problem in winter with thicker gloves.
Front tyre goes after about 3000 miles in summer with hard use of the brakes. If you was after storing anything under the back seat (forget it) 'cause just enough room for the genuine tool kit.
Engine always seems to have the sound as though needs a good service and shim adjusting. the bike is so uncomfy to ride around town at 30/40mph but get it out on country roads and start to use the throttle and the bike becomes managable and enjoyable to ride.
The sound from the ram air system at higher revs is awesome. The handling is good and brakes are pretty good but do benefit from Goodridge making stopping more effortless.

This is my first proper bike since passing my test 3 years ago.
Its not a bad little bike, great for round town and poeple who have a height issue like myself.
it can be a little temperamental in the cold but apart from that its a reliable little machine.
It's easy to work on and parts are usually easy to come by and fit.
the bike doesnt look like anything special but is tidy and quite sporty looking. Its quite cheap to run too and insurance isn't too high.
I'd recomend this bike for first time riders.
