Buell XB12R Firebolt. The engines performance is not up to modern 600's but thats missing the point. It has loads of useful torque all the way round the dial and the lazy beat means you often find yourself going faster than you think. A realistic top end of 140 mph is achievable although keeping in double figures is where its best. The front end will lift with ease in first and hovers in second. It pumps out 100 bhp and 80 ft/pnds of torque so never lacks power. The brakes lack slightly in feel but you soon get used to them and they do not lack bite. The chassis is the gem, light and very quick steering inspiring confidence. The short wheelbase makes the bike very compact. The riding position is a bit head down backside up. Legs are not to cramped, though a long ride may reveal more. I am 6'1". and no problems so far. Fuel consumption is mid forties to the gallon on average. Instruments are basic but informative, no need for bells and whistles. Lighting, well! High beam and daytime lights are ok. Low beam, Upgrades are essential for any nocturnal riding. I have yet to do mine. The bodywork is a bit soft and scratches quite easily and needs careful looking after. Overall finish is pretty good if kept away from winter roads. Servicing is a doddle and surprisingly cheap if you carry it out yourself. Reliabilty issues seem to be a myth. If looked after properly and ridden with consideration it will stand up well. If you are bored of the latest offerings and want a machine that requires interaction, go ride a Buell you will not be dissapointed.

Having spent most of my riding career on big jap fours, with an occasional brit classic, the odd chop and a streetfighter, I fancied a bit of a change from the Blackbird I had been using, and this was a real change ! Pocket sized with a thunderous exhaust note, the handling is amazing, and the riding position makes you want to blast everywhere. Not especially fast, your licence is safe on a motorway, but A roads and twistys will see a big grin on your face. I wouldn't want to commute on this as it would be a waste, and with no luggage capacity, it won't hold its head up high on the practicallity ratings, but it gets 10/10 on the fun factor, and it is a real head turner too. If you want something a bit different that's real fun, get one.
