In the 80s it was cruisers for me in the 90s naked roar power bikes.In the begin 2000 I was mad on sports bikes.
Due to aging limbs acheing hips and rusty knees I decided it was time to sit up straight.
I had my mind set on the new speed triple.. The day I went with my check book I saw her.. Tiger lilly .She winked at me with that sexy eye of hers and I took her for a spin.
Within minutes my Mind was changed.She hugged the road pulled like a train ,loads of room in the saddle .I had a perfect view of the road ahead.
I find the Tiger alot of fun out on the track and lapped a friend of mine on my old daytona at Spa in Belgium .
On a tour with the luggage on its practicality and reliability is a great comfort.
Great ride for a experienced rider and very forgiving ride for the inexperienced.
Fuel economy is great although took a dent when I put the Off the road exuast on the sound was intoxicating I gave fist fulls of gas just for the sound alone.
A truelly great allrounder.

Triumph Tiger 955i
A beguiling mount that will astonish sports bike riders with its ability to step into bends at 'grin-making' speed and hold a line straight past them.
The Hinckley triples are renowned for their smoothness, reliability and mid-range grunt which is a good thing given that the gearbox on the Tiger is a rather notchy bag of cogs. But that said, I have never missed a gear or found a false neutral: it just feels inconsistent in its action.

I've done 6000 miles on mine and averaged around 50mpg; I've had 130 mph out of her, on the autobahns of course, but be prepared to wince when you slap on the anchors because this bike is heavy with a high centre of gravity and so fork-dive is a bit of rollercoaster ride for the unwary. But that said, you do get used it and the Tiger will stop briskly enough if you need it to.

This bike isn't for short riders: I'm 5'9" with an inside leg of 29" and can only just get the balls of my feet down. Don't even think about buying this bike if you are smaller than me: you'll only drop it which I've done twice now :-(

Servicing is pricey, you won't get any change out of £500 when the 12k and 24k services come up. Valve checking is what causes the problem here and don't even think about doing it yourself because it's beyond the DIYer.

Tyres last 8k back 12k front so I'm told and overall reliability is excellent, although I did need a new steering head bearing at 12000 miles which was a disappointment because my previous bike, a Kawasaki ZR7, didn't go wrong at all in the six years I owned it.

The only criticism I'd make is the wind blast which is intolerable unless you either ditch the screen or replace it with something that's been shaped in a wind tunnel. The standard screen kicks up so much turbulence that head vibration causes blurred vision (and I mean not being able to see straight at all) at any speed above 70mph. Yes, the screen keeps your arms and chest out of the action but what were Triumph thinking when they screwed this piece of plastic to the fairing?

At any rate, with a third party screen high speed cruising is a doddle and I've been able to complete 300 mile day trips without complaint from my 50 year-old body.

Overall, this is a great bike with a degree of street presence. Yes it looks weird but that's its charm and, well, the name on the tank is just such a crowd pleaser. I have had many old codgers (hang on a minute, am I not one too!) come and chat to me, when I'm parked up, about Triumph's heyday. But the truth is that Triumph's heyday is now; for me, owning a Tiger is to know once again that we 'Brits' can still create machines that conjure up passion, pride and a sense of enjoyment.

What more could we born-again bikers want I ask myself.

I was in the market for a new Triumph but wanted something which I could get off after riding 300 miles and still walk.
I didn't like the old shape Tiger and I had just sold my RS sprint which was a fantastic bike but had started to give me a bad neck.
I took a 20 minute test ride on the 1050 and had the credit card out as soon as I got back!! It does everything.It goes like stink, handles well due to the proper rubber as against the old Tigers trailie tyres,and its got Nissin radial brakes on the front so it stops as well as it goes.

Fuel consumption is working out at around 47mpg even when thrashed 2 up with luggage so its quite an economical bike for long trips. I've covered about 9000 mile on it so far, most of them in France and Spain, and its been a dream.

It cruises well at around 90mph, even with all the gear and the wife on the back and is sure footed enough to throw into bends without tying itself in knots. I put the Triumph "Off road" pipe on ,and with the new fuel map Triumph reckon its realeased another 10hp, and of course, it sounds fantastic.

Downsides? The Triumph luggage is quite expensive and the exhaust side pannier is a bit small, but its 100% watertight even in 8 hour rides through deluges, and the rear shock is right on its limit at times with a full load -solo its fine.
Take a test ride- you'll be impressed.

I have finally found the ideal bike in my budget range. The Triumph Tiger 900 is a tall trailie which easily carried me and my 16 year old son to the Alps last year. We are both over 6' tall, with a combined weight of about 28 stone, but the sturdy triple pulls away with vigour every time. I have owned many touring-style bikes, but this has been by far the best one for me. I have added a tall screen, and a wonderful custom seat from Digger in Newport (Gwent), and the riding experience has changed me from a recreational rider to an all-weather enthusiast. If I were to find fault at all (which is difficult), it would be the lack of centre stand. The fuel range is about 180 miles, and parts are easy to find. I would recommend this bike to anyone who hasn't got the budget for a big BMW, or the newer Tigers. Choose carefully and prepare to be thrilled!

A great all rounder which I use for commuting to work every day and also touring two up. We have toured Germany and France and it has always been reliable and fairly comfy. It regularly returns around 50 mpg but if you twist its ears it will drop to around 40 ish mpg. Its only downside is really its weight - if you are a little short in the leg you may struggle manouvering the Tiger in car parks , on gravel and the like. If you drop it on its ear you'd better be fit - at 220kg plus, it is not the easiest of bikes to pick up. Having said all of that, once on the move the weight is not apparent and it'll surprise a few sports bikes in the twisties. Although it is a tall machine it can be cranked over until the pegs touch down and that's a long way over!

This triumph custom chop was profesionally built by Eric at Equire motorcycles in Bury St Edmunds,Suffolk and was on the road in January 2000. Since then it has had several improvements. It has all the right parts in the right places. It handles very well,is reliable and ideal for cruising at 60mph. It has won several prizes including best in show twice, most recent was in July 2006
and is admired by people where ever it goes. The make up of the bike and parts work well and has been built to a high standard. The actual cost of building and labour for this bike is approx £ 12,000 so it is clearly a bargain at the asking price. For those motorcycle enthusiasts and collectors who want something different
to turn heads and increase in value each year, this will be a very good investment.

I have owned my T4 Tiger 900 for over a year and it has performed and handled very well. Like most large trail bikes you sit up high and its fun to be on the same level as transit van drivers.
The bike has had two apparently common faults to the T4 Tiger, the first being an alternator drive shaft fault where a bolt head had sheared. The replacment shaft has been redesigned so this will not occur again. An indication of this fault is a rattle that is worse when the headlights are switch off. The second fault was the ignition pickup which fails at higher engine temperatures, i.e. Hot days in the summer. A new redesigned pickup coil fixed this fault too.
