Looks pretty but has an uncomfortable seat and struggles to keep up with traffic on A-roads.

I bought the KLE from a dealer in London, bit on impulse as some dork in local rag decided to sell the bike he had promised to me, this was on Saturday and I needed transport for Monday morning! I like the bike but it has some serious faults - that chuffing saddle for a kick-off - my bike vibrates like a pig under 3,000 rpm and I now am contemplating buying shares in Locktite. Also the roor/stator unit packed up (it ate the magnets) and this seems a common problem. The front brake - what can I say apart from it's sh*te, I have replaced it with a caliper from a KLR 650 (I think?, bled the hell out of it, replaced pads, but it is not a good brake), needs a Brembo like my sons KTM 400 EXC, that pulls the tyre off the rim if you want it to. I manage 145 miles before reserve (around 30 miles) and I think the tank is around 16 litres. If I really nail it, this drops to 110 miles before reserve. Just worn the rear Michelin Pilot out and I don't know what to replace it with some people say the Bridgestone is good- anysuggestions????

I have recently puchased the latest KLE after test riding DR650, XR650L, GS650 & KLR650. This bike handles great at speed, provides plenty of ground clearance, feels lighter than its actual weight off road, front brake not that responsive, but generally quite a good package for the price. The bike is currently being prepared for a trip.. from Brisbane to Alice Springs, across the Simpson Desert to Birdsville. This ride will provide a good test for this bike.

Not a bad bike for the price. Great for cummuting to work, cheap to run and easy to get between the cars. As for gravel/dirt roads, soaks up all the bump no problem. Changed the tyres to Bridgestone Trail Wings so hopefully better handle in the slippery roads. The seat is not good! actually the worst i have sat on. But overall it's not a bad bike. Done around 12000kms travel to work and exploring Vic, Aust.

Had the bike 2 months now and not that impressed to be honest. The brakes aren't that good and they engine is wheezy and lumpy. The seat has 'rucked' up after 1000km and I'm looking at a warranty replacment. On the bright side is it was cheap and does 70mpg.

The seat has been sorted, but Kawasaki should have done more with the engine. Euro laws meant the introduction of 3 cat converters, which heavily restrict the engine. A boost in power should have accompanied this.
The engine gives reasonable torque, but this is mainly due to low gearing, which means 100 mph is rarely achieveable. The rear shock wont cope with two adults and luggage, and the front brake hardly copes at all.
As a day to day solo hack, it does just fine, just don't expect much of it.
I intend to trade it in as soon as I can afford to.

I've owned my KLE500 now for 12 months nearly. When I got it, it was in poor condition, but still rideable so I saw out the summer months on just an oil-oil filter-sparkplugs change. I know it is a winter bike but im not, so it was garaged and stripped in October, the engine itself didnt need any work other than a good clean which then revealed a slight oil leak at the cam tensioner. Had a bike mechanic look at it and told me just to keep it topped up with oil as it was only a slight leak.So far I've done 1200 miles and only used 500ml. I was also concerned about the niose the engine makes - he assured me all twin cylinders make that sort of noise. Anyway after I stripped it down I began to replace the panels with nearlly new ones. This proved to be pretty costly as all together I paid 190 quid for three panels then I tarted the paint work up a bit, put new foot pegs on, fitted a new back tyre 94 quid, replaced the indicators with the corect ones, degunged the front drive sprocket housing and the chain, cleaned all the road tar off the wheel rims and gave it a little bit of spit and polish. Last week I finally finished took it out this morning for a spin and she runs like a dream - 115mph is about its limit. If it went any faster I think I'd need to get myself down to the gym for some upper body work.. It does about 160 miles to a full tank around these country roads of north yokshire. Its well suited up here but i struggle to keep up with some of the lads but then im the only one on a dual purpose bike and if they get to the cafes before me theres always a cup of tea waiting. I still think my bike sounds better than those lean racing machines though. For a 1994 bike with 24500 on the clock that sits comfy at 90 on the motorway its not a bad bike at all. It only cost me 700 quid of my 1000 pound allowance and was money well spent, i think. I just hope it warms up soon and the rain holds off, looking forward to visiting the lakes this spring.

Just bought the bike pre reg at a great price. Build quality not good but this was expected, good maintenance is required. Only major moan is front brake efficiency. Any ideas how to improve this would be great. Motor very good nice and torquey.

I got one for free, with a seized big end. After cheaply replacing the motor, I'm keen to do some suspension work to it as I want to take it offroad on station raods in outabck Australia.

My last bike was a VTR1000F so this is a bit of step down...

I hate the purple seat, it looks puely GAY.

Got this bike cheap, had been in many accidents, and obviously been dispatched. The plastics were difficult to source from breakers as this is quite a rare bike and couldn't get a tank for a reasonable price so kept the old dented one. Put a new exhaust and hagon shock on it and by the time I had finished spent
