Another day, another track
Llandow, South Wales.
My ongoing obsession with chicken strips and knee down (or lack of), has driven me to another track day.
My ‘Prila Mille R- riding pal, Dom has organised this with some Fazer owners and the obligatory Ninja mentalists, but he muffed up with the weather this year –V poor
Never mind.

Again, I’m in the novice group as this track holds some demons for me. When I first bought the R6, I took it for a few laps around Llandow and came away in tears as the suspension was so crap, the tyres were useless and I could hardly make it round the track without nearly coming off. So, consequently everyone and their dog lapped me.
That was then. This is now.

Two years later.
The same crowd were there, gleefully rubbing their hands in anticipation of knowing they weren’t gonna be the slowest on the track. The bint on the crap R6 was here.
(Of course, you know where this is going, don’t you?)
First session, I took it easy, warming my tyres with three sighting laps, not two – cos it’s only a tiddly track. Held my own, didn’t come in last, lapped Hornet Boy, who was doing an excellent job as a mobile chicane.

Second session, gave it a bit more, started to over take people. Hornet Boy faired a lot better.
By the end of the third session, I was keeping up with the 2 fastest boys on track, and was blinding in the corners. That’s where I was finding I was a lot quicker than the other riders. Lapped Hornet Boy… twice.
Lapped a chap on an exact same R6 as mine, with matching R6 red and white leather gimp-suit. Well chuffed. Overtook nearly everyone else.

Lunch time and there are numerous ruffled egos and miffed looks.
"You’ve been practicing; you weren’t this good last time."
Indeed, it’s amazing what Mallory and Brands can do for your confidence.

Friday pm
Afternoon sessions and the fastest rider from my group has been promoted to the advanced group. It would have been me, but cos I’m a girl, they all voted against me, or so I like to think.
Subsequently, the slowest rider from the advanced group joined us. The fight was on. Me versus a Thundercat.
I kept him behind me all the way. Just.
‘Prilia Dom pulled me to one side telling me off for upsetting his mate.
"I ride with him on the road and I can’t keep him behind me – but you’ve managed to do it on a track!"
Well, ditch the Mille and get an R6!!
(To be fair – Dom is pretty nifty – used to be a Ninja mentalist)

I’m so far over that both front and back tyres are scrubbed from side to side. When these babies come off, I’m getting them framed.

The track owner used to be a racer and came by to warn me that although I’m fast in the corners, I needed to be careful of losing the front end unless I leaned off the bike. I know this but it just feels so unnatural, and slows me down. He also told Hornet Boy that he rode duck-footed. Bit rich coming from a Taff…

In all, a thoroughly enjoyable day, but if there are any racing Gods out there reading this who reckon they can help me with my cornering technique – please step forward and rise to the challenge where so many before you have failed.
