Show revs up to find biker babe - (29/06/2009)

A search has been launched to find the Biker Babe of North Wales

The winner of the competition will be crowned at the popular Motorbike Show which is being held in Llangollen on August 1 and 2.

Last year’s show was the first and was hailed a roaring success by the thousands of bike fans who came from far and wide.

The organisers, Xuberance Events, are promising bigger and better things this year and the preparations are hotting up already – not least thanks to the Biker Babe competition.

Xuberance boss David Green explained that biker babes or grid girls were a big feature of all the best biking events.

The search for the North Wales Biker Babe is being spearheaded by aspiring model Lauren Knowles, 19, from Prestatyn.

Lauren is the current Miss Prestatyn and came third in the Miss Wales competition last year.

A top modelling agency based in Manchester already wants to sign Lauren and she’s off to London soon for an interview at the world-renowned Samantha Bond agency where Katie Price aka Jordan started.

Lauren, who works for a promotions company, is delighted that she was asked to be the face of the Biker Babe competition and loved every minute of the photo shoot at A & D Motorcycles, in Denbigh.

She said: “I am really proud to be the face of the Biker Babe competition. I am really excited about it.”

Entrants will need to email a picture of themselves and a brief 50-word biography to Xuberance.

The candidates’ photos will then be posted on the Motorbike Show website so that bike fans can vote to choose the five finalists who will attend the first day of the event.

The winner, to be chosen by a panel of judges, will receive a £400 prize while the runners-up will each get £50.

In addition, the winner will be paid to do more promotions work on the second day of the show as well.

David Green said: “All the best bike shows have a concentration of biker babes and we came up with the idea of launching this competition.

“The show itself is all about celebrating everything local in terms of bikes so we came up with the idea of linking that into a competition instead of bringing girls up from London.

“We thought it would be far better to search for somebody who is local to us. By launching this competition we will be highlighting the amount of potential we have in relation to biker babes.

“I’m grateful to A & D Motorcycles for providing a location and bikes for the photo shoot.

“The local biking fraternity has given us fantastic support from the outset and this year’s event will be bigger and better.

“We have doubled the number of exhibitors – not only selling but also providing advice.

“This is a show for bikers from all disciplines, from the vintage and classic bikes right through to the road racing bikes.”

Legendary round-the-world motorbiker Nick Sanders, the fastest man to circumnavigate the globe on two wheels, is one of the star attractions.

The man from Mid-Wales has done it harder and faster – and with less back up - than the celebrity bikers, Ewen McGregor and Charley Boorman.

Also on display for the first time in North Wales will be one of the most famous bikes in the history of speedway which was ridden by former world champion Peter Collins during the golden age of the sport in the 1970s.

There’ll also be motorbike displays, expert advice clinics, a club corner, a live action arena and music as well as a new Custom bike show.

Among those looking forward to the event is Martin Thomas, the Sales Manager at A & D Motorcycles, who said: “We were ecstatic when the Motorbike Show started last year – it’s great to having something like this in North East Wales.

“It’s very nice to have somebody pushing the biking scene and hopefully it will go from strength to strength.

“We were pleased to host the photo shoot to launch the competition to find the Biker Babe – it’s always nice to have a bit of glamour in the shop.”
