I Wanted one of these first time I ever saw one when I was in my late 20s,so here I am aged 52 on my 2nd Bought about 4 mths ago to replace my aging FJ1100. What a difference! The 1100 seemed more sporty and accelerated a lot harder, but handled a bit more dubious sort of falling into bends due to the 16" front wheel, great bike though, The 1200 is the 3XW with ABS,takes a bit of getting used to. But hasn't missed a beat since I've owned it,it's left outside all weather always starts first press of the button,Havn't noticed any reduction in vibes, both bikes being ultra smooth and very cabable,I have had no problems with fork seals 2nd gear or brakes, all of which have been standard factory items,Cheap way of going very fast,Can't fault these bikes except could use another gear,Comfort, power, speed & reliability, all top class cheap insurance, and plentiful cheap spares. With regular oil changes can go on for years.love em both perhaps 1100 has slightly more charm

I have had 2 FJs over the past 2 years last one was a ABS model 1991 had no problems with it at all Superb Machine untill i had a bump on the Isle of Man this year so sold that on my return home still riding as it should but had plastic damage & didnt want to miss the rest of the summer months looking for replacement fairing So have now bought another FJ 1989 model its a cracker starts first push of the starter these bikes are great value for money with quite good insurance costs & it will keep up with most things on the road only real week point is the fork seals i have had to replace them on both bikes but overall its a Superb sports tourer with great engines no worries with FJs

It's the best bike I have ever owned. I have done lot of mods and she is now getting near to how I want it. Loads of power, can be ridden all day and with a few mods handles pretty well.
Mods done:-
R1 Calipers
Braided Hoses all round
17" Rear Wheel
Exup Ftont Wheel
JMC Swingarm
Progressive front Springs
Hagon Rear Shock
XJR Master & Clutch Cylinders
Stage 3 Dyno Kit
Individual Air Filters
Crankcase Filter

I am 63, have an FJ1200 and it's the best bike I ever owned. ie power, handling, braking improved with billet 6 pot and braided hoses, stands on its toes, handles a dream on bridgestone tyres. Believe me, I use it to the red line at every opportunity. What a bike! Can live with almost anything out there. Of course I know no fear and can ride as well > pride ha ha . Will update it. regards Sam. bedfordshire.ps. freeflow 4in 1 fitted.

It is nearly 10 years since Yamaha hung down this bike from its catalogue and there are a lot of them still running. This shows what a fantastic and reliable bike it is. Simply with a few mods (brakes, suspension and 17" rims) you can have a perfectly actual motorbike, capable of destroy any other touring bike in a curvy road.

I've had FJ for nearly six years now and ridden all over Blighty. Done about 30,000 miles with only one small niggle - a bad earth connection a couple of years ago, she's never let me down since. Sure, there's faster machinery out there, there's also lighter stuff too, there's stuff that does over 50mpg, but they all fall short of the character and fun of an FJ. But alas there just isn't any room left in the stable for her, so rather than see her go to rust, I'm offering her to a new owner in the classifieds.

I've had my FJ for about 5 years now and it's my second. Absolutely addictive torque ridden engine that allows me to virtually stay in top from 30 mph on. Roll ons from 50, 60, 70mph are amazing. Been to France twice, two up fully loaded with hardly any difference to the handling or power. < >No major problems apart from weak suspension linkages resulting in a strip down every year to sort the bearings. FJ's seem susceptible to clutch slave seal wear and fork seals blowing.< >Highly recommended as a comfy fast all rounder, particularly suited to luggage laden jaunts around Europe.< >The best big oil cooled engine there is! I've had my 1991 3XW for two and a half years now and whatever other bikes I get I'll always have to have an FJ12. They are an amazing bike to drive, endless torque from low rpm and in the wet weather the handling is smoother than any other sports tourer or sports bike I have ever ridden, which includes FZR1000, ZZR1100, CBR900R and ZX9R. Only fault I could find is the front brakes, they're pretty crap so steel braided lines are a must and better still are upgraded calipers and discs.
