I traded in my '95 CBR600 for this bike and I don't know if I love it or hate it... My last outing involved the throttle sticking open at 65mph. Switching off the ignition didn't help, the engine must have been running so hot that the lack of a spark didn't stop the fuel exploding. When I managed to stop the bike I examined the carb; as i tried to tighten the top of the carb, the carb FELL OFF! the inlet manifold was made of clay! The previous journey lost 2 bolts from the saddle, the one before that involved having to aim the bike between a land-rover and the kerb because it takes a quarter of a mile to brake. It broke down when I test-rode it, it stopped on the way home, the horn has stopped working, and one of the side-panel locks has fractured due to vibration. I have ridden the bike for about 200 miles and have had more breakdowns and near-misses than in 22 years' motorcycling (excluding an mz 125) but... what a beautiful bike, the sound, the hand-made mass of metal, the engine itself weighs the same as half a fireblade. Majestic brit iron that old men remember, crowds gather, policemen salute. All jap bikes are toys, not worth mentioning. You will never covet another bike. So they break, and need attention - real men fix, and understand. Call the AA and complain to the dealers if you can't hack it. Use a toolkit or weep like a girl. Adjust your valve clearances in 5 minutes, use an imperial gallon every eighty miles, and risk a glance at your shop-window reflection as the exhaust note shakes the glass. I love it, the damn thing's alive.
