Bought this as a first bike after taking direct access in 2004. Been riding daily apart from snowy weather since then. Just fitted Pirelli tyres which made 100% difference, now a sure footed machine in wet and dry. True about the centre stand I am 5"4' and just can't do it. I am buyin a GSXR this summer but am keeping this old workhorse for winter usage, I just can't bring myself to give it away

Picked up as a cheap hack to take to the Nurburgring as an old advocate and ex VFR rider I was astounded how good the GSX was. With new Michelin Pilot roads fitted it handled the track really well and surprised a few R1 GSXR jockeys. Fuel comsumption was far better than any of the VFRs I've had. The bike has passed 40k now and is still going strong, and I've decided to keep it as a work bike as 50 mpg suits me. Suspension is suprisingly still quite firm. As a cheap alternative to a VFR I would recommend one.

What a surprize, found myself looking for something for daily use with a bit of fun added, tried this machine and loved it. Used daily to commute its excellent, basic cleaning and maintenance it looks and runs great, fast enough to have some weekend fun. Large petrol tank with a good mpg, a tried and tested engine, better to let it heat up a bit before shooting off, can be a bit jumpy when cold, brakes are not stock, running stealth discs and pads, no problems . Large seat means plenty of room and your pillions not sitting on your back. original suspension still working well.

I have had 13 m'bikes all up, Dukes, Japs, tried the lot, but the busa does the cafe racer - tourer like no other with seamless integration between the two categories. This bike just never gives up, it has the torque to really hustle, and if your riding with a bike that will beat you through the bends then you'll always eat it on the straight. I was doing 180Kph the other day, thought I'd drop down to see what she would do. 5th no problem, 4th no problem, 3rd the motor was singing but not complaining, so I accelerated off in 3rd !!! The girl was sleeping at 180K's in 6th. Top that!!!

My CBR 1000 is a license killer ... So thought of getting a slower bike ... The Queen's constabulary is what you could call keen on taking money in exchange for point's on your riding ticket ... As I am carrying six point's and crapping a brick every time I see a yellow box on a pole ... And at sixty ( That's my age not the speed I ride at ) it was time I put down the sport's bike and took up some gentile style of moving along the Queen highway ... I wont go through the list of bike's I had been looking at ... This post is going to be boring enough ... Any way I ended up with a Suzuki GSX 1400 eleven month's old and only 568 mile's on the clock ( The price was too good to turn up ) ... In my eye's it still needed running in ...
Any way let's get on to the bike ... I'm five foot eight and about 13 stone ... So if you are bigger than me you may find it easier ... It's a big old ship to move round in and out of the garage ... Try padding it out and you will know what I mean ... Without the engine running it's like moving a supper tanker round in a kid's play ground bloody hard ... The thing's you notice if you are coming off a sport's bike is there is no protection you are open to every thing that nature can throw at you ... A bit strange at first ... But you'll get used to it ... Believe you me ... Slip the key into lock and switch on and the bike will go in to a check mode ... You will then get the all clear to start ... As I hate the first bloody crunch of engaging first gear on the start of any ride ... I have got in to the habit of firing her up run her for a min or so and the switch off ... Click down then pull in clutch and then hit the button again ... She up and running and in gear ... Not first gear crunch all you have to do now is let out the clutch and you are away ... Then it hit's you ... The low rev's of this bike is something you have to ride to understand ... What ever is on the rev counter double up and add a bit and that's your speed in MPH ... So doing 2K rev and you are rolling along at just over 40 MPH ... My old CBR thousand would not get out of bed for 2k rev's ... The seat is as wide as a double Decker bus and a comfortable as a fit lass who like her cream cake's ... Every thing is in the right place ... The bar's are close enough to sit you up right ... The foot peg's are just a smidgen behind your knees ... And you are sitting more or less up right ... As the bike is on the tall side ... Your view is a good few inch's better than any thing else on the road ... You can see for mile's ... A little warning don't think of grabbing a hand full in low gear ... Or you azz will be on the tar mack and the bike will be cart wheeling down the road ... It's got a hell of a lot of torque ... This bike needs respect ... And you better give her some or she will spit you off as soon as look at you ...
Now the ride bit ... Never had a naked bike before ... The first thing I noticed was travelling at slower speed's give you a felling of travelling a lot faster than you are ... Any thing over 90MPH and you better be hanging on hard ... Have you ever stood up in a ninety mile and hour wind ... Believe you me a wind at that speed is going to blow you over... So in all truth that's about as fast as I can ride her... You don't need to go any faster... Some say the GSX 1400 will go on to the 150 mark ... But that's big ball country ... You don't need more than 90mph on this kind of bike... With the wide handle bar's and the tall ride she will flick left to right with ease... The big 190 rear section tires will stick to the road like man juice on a glossy magazine... You've got two of the biggest exhaust can's on the back one each side... That can only be described as launch silo's for Atlas missiles... If it style and look's.. This has not got it all but for the price... It's nearly there... The clock are big enough for Mr Mcgoo to see... With the sweeping arm dial type .. A quick look down and it will convey all the information you need... No need to squint.. It there in your face.. The brakes are about the best there is on this type of bike.. Four triples up front and two twins at the rear.. Most bike are running twin's all round.. The down side is you will need to spend a bit of money on a few extra's.. Crash bar's belly pan and a rear hugger to name just a few.. Heated grip's and a rad guard to name some more.. You don't need a power commander unless you have a brick for a brain.. Mine is Red and Black.. But the Blue and White in my mind is a better colour match.. Most people know Blue and White as Suzuki colour's.. And the tank is big enough to swallow up next to

Such an underrated bike. This bike does it all - it's a great sports-tourer that handles well and is just so comfortable. I tour Europe regularly and all my riding companions are constantly complaining about back ache, etc. Not me! My GSX750F keeps up with the others on the straights and handles well enough on the twisty bits. It's much maligned image is a great shame. No, it's not cutting-edge racing design, but I don't want that in a bike - I want something I can ride day in day out and for as far as I see fit - not just a half hour manic blast. If you get the chance - buy one!

Awesome first bike. It's cheap to buy, cheap to ride, and if you keep it around 7 grand and above she'll keep with the other notorious Suzuki (GSX-R). It's a pain to take the fairing off EVERY time you need to adjust or fix something. Without a radiator the mods are limited but it is still plenty quick enough and great on gas. Glad to have it as my first bike.

I bought this Katana 2 yrs ago with 30K on it from a punk who abused it. But it's been rock solid reliable for me. It's fast, comfy, and low maintenance. The handling is a bit slow, but hey, this is a touring bike. It's a nice looking bike, too. I love it.

I bought mine whilst on a 2 year contract in Germany. Sealed the ram air, added TRE and opened up the airbox by removing slow speed flap and plumbing.
Seen 207m.p.h on the speedo when I accelerated away from a Porche GT3 on the autobahn between Karlruhe and Baden Baden ;)
