Really quick bike very good handling can't fault it. Do all GSXR600's whine in first gear or is it just mine??

I've just traded in from a 600 been passed test 4 six month. Bike is new. The blue/white graphics seem tatty and need sorting. The engine has done 400 miles, still running in, pulls like a train. Easier 2 ride than a peaky 600. Looks brilliant - better than common R1s. Feels good having something different even though it is far too powerful 4 the uk. In reality a 400cc is enough. Enjoy posing even though in reality the throttle is really connected to a ballistic missile. Buy 1 and respect it.

The GSXR wasn't as evil handling as everbody says. I've got a CBR600 now and it's not leaps and bounds better. Power and speed on the Gixer were awesome. No need for a gearbox. I miss the character of it now I've got the CBR. GSXRs are highly underrated.

My first bike, fitted goodridge hoses. Double bubble screen, headlight cover, steering damper, hugger, full yoshi exhaust, bt010,s. best colour blue/white good with pillion goes like a rocket can keep up with anything on road if you push it hard a couple of gears lower than the big boys. Done 6000 miles since June now got 16000 miles on clock. Next plan is to fit dynojet, air filter, undertray, micro indicators and book a few track days. e mail 4 a chat?????????

Had this bike for 6 months now, from a 1000 exup. Its everything I wanted in a bike and more. This thing handles like a dream, a bit notchy low revs but I can live with it. Destroys Fireblades and gives a standard R1 a hard time. If u ride fast and want inspired confidence, power and handling, BUY ONE OF THESE !! Harris can and K&N filter fitted. This bike rocks !!!!!!

Its not the fastest bike on the road topping out at 118mph which is pretty good for a 250 4 stroke, but with its rev limiter burried somewhere after 18500rpm it squeals like a banshee. It puts out 45bhp at 16500rpm. the brakes are amazing using the same disks and callipers as the 400 machine and when leant over the grip seems to be endless. The only down side is having to use a fuel additive in winter to stop the idle jet freezing over, and perhaps it could do with a little more power. Will still out-do all but the sportiest of cars and sounds a lot better in doing so. Crap sitting in traffic, it seems to have just enough power below 4000rpm to keep the motor spinning. Parts are readily available off the net at reasonable prices, and it has to be one of the rarest bikes in Britain.

Love it! This is not an ideal first bike, but I got it for a song, so I bought it! It is mind-blowing compared to retro-style 600s, turns quick, stops well, blows any car away, but will never keep up with a sports 750! I cannot emphasise "THIS IS NOT A GOOD FIRST BIKE"! It scares the hell out of me, which I love and have got used to after 5 months of riding it and gained a lot of confidence on this bike. Only thing that lets it down is the build quality (when compared to, say, a Honda), but I can live with that for the pure pleasure of riding it. Can do about 75 miles before I need a rest, I am 6'1" and it puts a lot of pressure on the back, neck and wrists, but if you can cope with it, it's fine.

I bought mine in 2000 when I got back into biking (read "learned to live with the mortgage"). Had a GSXR750L in 1990 and wanted the same but not the speed and the 400 fitted the bill perfectly. So far mine has dropped a valve onto a piston but the rebuild seems to be solid. Developed a mysterious problem only this week which I think is to do with the fuel air mix but things have been cleaned out (not ridden yet). I love it. Every time I think of getting a different bike I go for a ride and think "wow!" and change my mind. I can use all its power and handling - where can you do that with a 600 or bigger? Think I just need a second bike for longer distance work. James - your wheelie problem may be a weight ditribution thing. On the 400 you are pitched really far forward. Try moving your weight further backwards (no, I haven't wheelied mine but then I am 15st). Only thing that annoys me about it is the lack of aftermarket bits. You seem to be stuck with replacement fairings, race cans and screens. Bits off RGV 250's, early 1990's GSXR 750 and 1100's, and GSXF 600/750 and the 600/1200 Bandits fit. Good fun if you have your bike nekked in a breakers yard !

I have had my GSX-R400SS, for over a year now. I love it. It is a proper little sports bike. I've fitted a few extras like upside down forks and a new exhaust can (which gave it an extra few horses) It sounds like a dream, under 8,000 rpm it sounds like a meaty 250, bit when the rev counter climbs, you are given a whole new note. It screams like a beast. Mates have commented that it sounds like a GP bike, when its at full throttle which it is most of the time!. I find that it will out corner most big bikes, but on the straights at over 70 they pull away. Its a good learner bike, and gives you a sense of confidence. Which is probably why I have crashed it twice ( 2nd time wasn't my fault! but they all say that!). I would recommend it to anyone who has just passed their test. It is a big cramped for the taller rider, and you do tend to get back ache after the first few miles, but hey its so much fun.
