I shall give a quick summary of the 1994/95 Suzuki GS125ESM. Its comfortable, but if you're tall (I am about 6 foot) it starts to take a toll on your back as the seat is tilted forward so you move back but slide back down to the tank. It handles like a dream, avoiding those pot holes and drain covers is easy on this beast. The pulling away power from stand still is fantastic but slowly loses power towards 8000 rpm in 4th.
Only £10.56 to fill up (at 102.9p per litre) and seems to last forever.
As usual the front breaking is better than the back but the back with a touch can take off enough speed to comfortably go round corners in built up places.
When cruising at 30mph it is a comfortable and enjoyable ride, as you hit 55mph+ you start to get battered by the wind, if its windy then becareful because the bike is ultra light (an add-on to that, if people want to turn up and put it in their van to drive off it won't take longer than 4 or 5 mins, get a lock)..
But overall, a great learners bike!

Fantastic as a first sports 600 or for the more experienced. As a girls I chose this in particular for its low seat height and narrowness which made it more comfortable for the shorter rider. This is a very forgiving sports 600 and riding mistakes made won't as easily cause an unexpected reaction on the road. Responsive on the throttle and with the most amazing brakes its a great bike for gaining confidence.
After two years it has not failed to start, even after standing for over six weeks or had any faults. Mirrors are well placed for me but could be less useful to a tall rider.
After a collision with something furry and unidentified part of the fairing did easily snap. Taking off any of the fairing is an event and you certainly need plenty of time figuring out how it all goes back on. Not great when you're paying for it as part of the service.
This bike does come in to its own on the track. It has real flickability and sharp cornering plus some very good looks with sharp lines.
I was unsure of having this bike as my first 600 but I am in no doubts now that it has been fantastic to help develop new skills and also provide 'the grin' to the more experienced rider.

A little update on my previous review.
I've now had the bike 6 months and have covered a little over 8000 miles. Still getting excellent fuel consumption. Still on origional tyres, but will need the rear tyre replacing soon. Basically the bike is as new, runs sweet, and only had to purchase oil for the scottoiler - a reat asset! The only problem I have is the alternator cover, part of the paint has peeled under the centre nut. When I took it in for the service the dealer takes a photo and sends this to Suzuki. 3 weeks later, I'm still waiting to hear. Not too good on customer service. The servicing costs are really expensive, £288 for the 7500 mile service - £150ish for the 4000 and just over £100 for the 500 mile service. So is it worth it? The extra I pay for servicing - I don't know - at least you have peace of mind with a new bike (2yr warranty). I would still rather the V-Strom than a sports bike or BMW for the 130 mile a day journey.....

Brought this bike new with the incentive of the 0% finance offer. Handling and power fine but build quality is poor. Engine very sweet and keeps pulling well past 100 mph. love the classic look of the bike but dislike the poor brakes (especially the rear). Gearbox is clunky and low speed handling is a problem for me.

Ok lots of people will say that is not their dream bike, and there are better bikes on the market. I found out that this bike is heavy to lift out of a deep bog, as have just come back from a weekend in the I.O.M this is my second outing on the DRZ to the I.O.M ,the bike did its self proud, cheap to run many accessories to add on. If the latest off road rocket is out of reach then try a DRZ you might like it.

Fantastic Bike.
I have had mine for 2 years.
I use it for commuting, the school run, track days and hill climbs. I love it to pieces, the engine is fantastic and the brakes are brilliant.
The styling of the bike is beautiful and the lovely swooping of the swingarm and the ally frame make for nice viewing.
She is maybe not the best bike for commuting, but for grins per mile there are loads. The fantastic twin discs up front have got me out of some scrapes and install huge amounts of confidence on track.
I did my first track days last year and although people have tried to tempt me away on other 2strokes i feel this bike has lots to offer and you can learn a lot from them.
There are plenty of aftermarket options for them, pipes, fairings and goodies.
Comfort wise doing a 105 mile journey (with only 2 stops) i really felt that sports position and wrists/back/ shoulders suffered, but once your out there riding fast or on track the position it puts you into really is of benefit and feels really comfortable and you easily feel at one with the bike
Highly recommended and check out the rgv forum for loads of advice and help. Also great to meet up with for tracks days etc
She has never broken down on me or had any najor malfunctions the worse being a broken wire and neding re ringing. But do look after those powervalves, at over £400 for both they are not cheap an if that pin goes it could all go very wrong

Actually this is about the latest Bandit 1250, but the drop down box only let me choose 1200cc...
A lot of bike for the money and should be great for relative newcomers. More user friendly than most older or retro 750s, and no more intimidating.
Feels surprisingly light with a relatively low centre of gravity making up for a fairly high seat. The half fairing doesn't really do much at speed: it looks high compared to sports bikes, but it's nothing like as high as the rider's position, unless you drop down lower than your hands... No, this bike isn't a speed monster and the naked version probably makes more sense.
The engine is the best bit - it's smooth and sweet pulling cleanly, with a gently increasing urge, from about 3000 rpm. There are few vibes in the contact points. Narrow rear end and footpegs give a comfortable, if rather upright, position.
The informative, but cluttered, dash comes complete with a LCD few bars of fuel guage (not as good as the one on my 1983 kawasaki, but hey, it's a fuel guage).
Gears are a bit clunky and can drop back into neutral unless you're not careful and/or heavy footed. Clutch is slightly heavy for a hydraulic, but it's okay.
The front brake (with adjustable reach lever) is pretty well matched to the bike and stops the bike surprisingly well, though the front end needs scuba equipment.
The ABS is not great - is it ever? The rear pulses fairly slowly and bangs and crashes like nobody's business. The front is more refined and seems quicker, but as with the rear you can stop much faster if you avoid triggering the ABS, or if you do trigger it then backing off and re-applying can still stop you quicker than staying on it. I suppose it might save you from lying the bike down, but it might have you run headlong into something solid, when with practice you could have stopped. Cars benefit more from ABS because it balances 4 brakes without needing 4 pedals and 5 legs, but even so, it took a few generations before it was much good. Bikers have always had the advantage: a seperate control for each braked wheel. Learn to use that advantage and you'll easily outperform this Bandit's ABS. If the bike hadn't had ABS I'd have given the brakes an extra star...

The RMX 250 has always been known for precise handling, but the gnarley but tractable power and more natural riding position calm the demanding chassis somewhat. Even though the 250 has a tighter fork offset than the 125, the stability at speed off road and safe feeling on high-speed straights and jumps is welcome but on road the only down side is make sure you have on road tyres as nobbly tyres feel unsafe at speed.
